Redband Trailer for TROPIC THUNDER

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2008
Source: Official Website

This movie feels like a comedy, which is something outside our Maniac scope (dime a dozen), but it does include a bit about war films so I'm including it and it has an all-star cast. The latest trailer---redband---has popped up online for Tropic Thunder, courtesy of the official website. You can see from the photo on the left that it stars Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black and Ben Stiller. It also stars Nick Nolte, Brandon Jackson, Steve Coogan, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Jay Baruchel, Matt Levin, Andrea De Oliveira, Reggie Lee, Matthew McConaughey and Tom Cruise. Ben Stiller did the directing, based on a screenplay by himself, Etan Cohen and Justin Theroux.

Like I said, all-star cast spoofing war movies...

Plot Summary: Ben Stiller says "Tropic Thunder" is a "a comedy about five actors who go on location and find themselves relying on their boot camp experiences when they get stuck in a real war-like situation." Black will play Jeff "Fats" Portnoy, an overweight gross-out comedian, who's forced to kick his drug addiction while filming on location in the jungle. Downey Jr. will play Kirk Lazarus, the greatest actor of his generation and a four-time Oscar winner. Baruchel will play Kevin Sandusky, an unknown actor on the set and Stiller plays Speedman.

Tropic Thunder hits theaters Aug. 15, 2008.

I'm not a huge Stiller fan, but I do like Jack Black and, like you two, I'm convinced that Downey is gonna completely steal this movie. I'm definitely in line to see this already.

Agree, RDJ is the man. Damn I'm glad he's getting his due. Both trailers from this film have been awesome and it looks like they're going for the adult audience as opposed to taming it down for the pg13 rating. I'm there.

What IS redband??? It makes you sign in and then I get this:

WE'RE SORRY, WE WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY YOUR INFORMATION AT THIS TIME. PLEASE CHECK THE INFORMATION YOU SUBMITTED AND TRY AGAIN. IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE PLEASE TRY THE FOLLOWING:
Please enter your first and last name as it appears on an official ID, like a driver's license. For instance, if your ID shows a first name of Robert, use Robert instead of Rob.

If you have moved recently please try with a previous address.

If you have recently married please try with your maiden name.

How could they know any of this, and why should they need to?

A red band trailer is basically just another way of saying a Rated R trailer... Curse words, nudity, whatever... it's the kind you'll usually only catch on the internet and you'll never see in front of a feature at a theater.

But I'm not sure about the verification process. I typed in a fake name, my real zip and birthday and it gave me that same message. When I typed in my real name, though, it actually worked... kind of scary.

Wow yeah same thing happened for me too sportwarrior, that is scary (damn you market research!).

Love the R-rating and love that you passed this along Jarrod.

I actualy saw a red band trailer for House Party when I went to see the first turtles movie (well the second time I saw the movie). Had to be a red band because they had the close up butt shot when the stripper (or whatever) did the split. I was 10 and you don't forget that theater experience.

I think it was House Party.

look i remember the butt shot. so there. it happened.

this movie looks fun. and I honestly laugh at every scene with robert when he was the black dude in the red band trailer.

also i was able to get it from the iTunes store with no problem. Must be because i have an account and you're suppose to use a credit card for it but I got mine with a pepsi deal a while back. hmmm...
