We can do without anymore GB after that shittty part 2, I still can't get that taste out of my mouth and it's been over 20 years.
Anyway after so many series dealing with this theme this seems more apt for tv than a feature

We all know that Sony and Columbia Pictures is wanting to reboot the Ghostbusters franchise with a younger cast. Now let's test the theory that the original writer-producer Ivan Reitman can't involved in that passing of the torch, Maniacs. NYMAG's Vulture column reports that;
The studio's strategy is to revitalize the franchise for next year by having the original 'busters train a dramatically younger crew in Ghostbusters III, while a correspondingly younger director handles things behind the camera. However, Reitman's old contract — made at the height of his and Ovitz's powers — still gives him exceptional creative control over the series, including director approval.
Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis have deals in which they can single-handedly veto and kill the project if they don't like something. The studio would like to have the actors on board, however.
A second draft of the script by "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will be turned in in May.
According to Vulture, Columbia had hoped that Reitman's new project would conflict with Ghostbusters 3, but Reitman thinks he can do both. He'll next direct the comedy Friends with Benefits, starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. It's a sex comedy wherein two friends in a purely physical relationship begin to develop true romantic feelings for one another. That movie is scheduled to hit theaters on January 7, 2011.
If Ivan Reitman is vetoed out of this process, we may not see a Ghostbusters 3.

Bad taste? Ghostbusters 2 wasn't that bad. If they'd left out the hip-hop soundtrack and focused more on performance instead of visual effects like the first film it would have been better. But all in all, it was ok. It had the original Ghostbusters, unlike this "passing the torch" crap they keep talking about. I'm with Dazzler, I hope they don't screw this up. I thought everything was set to make this movie.
Plus you have 3 guys that can single handedly kill the project? Yeah, I just don't see this getting done anyway.
krath, maybe you're right. To be fair I haven't watched the film since it came out so I'm going by memory of how I felt. Maybe I owe it another viewing
I had a feeling something like this was coming down the pike- this wont get made for quite some time
Sony/Columbia owns Ghostbusters correct? They could concievably say fruck it and start from scratch and remake the orignal with a brand new cast and a brand new story.
I don't think Ghostbusters 2 is nearly as good as the first one either, yet that's somehow part of it's charm for me. There's some really awful moments, but there's some really funny moments also.
My favorite funny moment is between Peter and Dana's boss at the museum...Peter asks him a question about his outrageous and unrecognizable accent...
Peter - Jerry, where the HELL are you from, anyway?
Jonosz - Ze upper vest side.
Yeah, I really want this movie to work. I don't know if that means getting another director. Reitman Sr. hasn't been on a winning streak the past few years. As long as they get all the original cast to appear for the handing off.
I love the first movie (and the cartoon series). I've never liked GB2. I think I listed before in another article how it is literally scene for scene the same movie as the first.
If this falls apart and at this point that seems likely, don't be surprised if the powers that be at Sony/Columbia say to Reitman and the others "were going in a different direction." The same way they did with the Spiderman franchise and restart it from scratch. I'm not saying that it will work but if they've got that much of an hard on to put out new Ghostbusters product that's what they'll do.
how about Jason Reitman? He's younger, and they could still keep it "in family".
God I hope they don't fuk this up!
Starting playing the PS3 game, pretty good so far.
