Number 5 is alive...again? It certainly looks that way as Dimension Films has grabbed the rights to remake the 1986 film Short CircuitVariety also reports that the indie distributor has also hired the original creators, S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, to pen the new screenplay. David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce with John Hyde.

Plot Concept:
The original introduced Number 5, a robot built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon. It developed a conscience and a personality after being hit by lightning, and then needed the help of humans after it was targeted for destruction by its makers, once it became a peacenik.

Go figure. Well I guess a remake of this wouldn't bother me. I liked the original, but disliked the 2nd one. Will the robot look as similar as the original? Or are they going to reimagine it like the way they did the robot from Lost In Space? Either way I'll wait for the dvd release.

well while word of another remake makes me queasy, i liked the original and sequel. the original creators are writing the screenplay so maybe their thinking "we can make this movie what we always wanted it to be." what with modern tech and all. although i still hate all these fuckin' remakes try to be a little creative at least or instead of a remake how about a sequel.

I dunno if this came up cuz of the movie WALL*E cuz from what i hear the kids talking they think they're the same character or related somehow.

Either way i liked these movies and i want to see WALL*E so ill be there for both.

So this is what old feels like. When movies and cartoons I grew up with as a teenager are being remade.

Wake me up when we have real robots to clean up after me... and a Roomba doesn't count.

Even back then I didn`t like this movie. Why in the hell do they need to remake this? I just don`t see a reason, except for trying to bank off of Wall-E.
They may as well remake Police Academy, too while they are at it. How about the Goonies?

I remember liking the original when I was ... I don't know ... in elementary school. I definitely don't have high hopes for this, unless it's hard core action.

Did she stick her tongue down your throat?

Hey Laserlips. Your mama was a snowblower.

Bye-bye, goofy woman. I enjoyed repeatedly throwing you to the ground.

Ooh. Her pants are blazing for you, Newton Crosby.

Really? A remake? Really?!?
Can't we consider all the energy consumption needed and trash generated in making a film and then think about whether a Short Circuit remake makes any sense? Please? Really?
