Another remake on the way for Hollywood.  I don't have anything bad to say against director Roland Emmerich, I guess it's more a question of why I'm writing every other article having to deal with a remake...Whatever the case, Variety is reporting that director Emmerich will be remaking the 1966 sci-fi film, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, for 20th Century Fox.

Plot Summary: The story centers on  a scientist who is dying of a blood clot. His only chance for survival is for five scientist colleagues to be miniaturized in a ship, and injected into his bloodstream.

Legendary genre actors Raquel Welch and Donald Pleasence (Halloween, Escape From New York) starred in the original version...Emmerich is a very well known director.  He did score big with Fox with Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and he just completed a Warner Bros pic titled 10,000 B.C which will hit theaters March 7, 2008.

Well, I wasn't alive in '66, but I do remember Innerspace, and I really do not find myself to be interested in anything of the sort. Pass for now.

If they go the Innerspace route with this, I'm outta there...but if they go a Star Wars and or Moonraker in the blood stream route (Think the battle climaxes of those movies), well, I'm there in spades!!! And remember, I'm the one who said Star Wars and Moonraker in the blood stream, cause when it happens, and I'm betting it will, you'll all know that I came up with the idea!!! Now, worship me minions!!! --Metal Water has spoken!!!

PS-They should do this in 3-D!!!

"I liked this movie when it was called Carpool with Tom Arnold."

Triangle, I think you choked on your own joke. Anyway, If I remember right Innerapace was the tongue in cheek remake of the Fantastic Voyage. For me it's too early to judge this film. I have to wait til I see the trailers.

The original was a great movie. I hope they can do it justice with this remake.

Someone help me with my history...wasn't Emmerich originally going to do this back in '97, fresh off Independence Day? Seems to me I've heard his name attached to this before.

I have always loved Emmerich movies. He is what Popcorn Movies are all about. Even Godzilla has grown on me over time. 10,000 B.C actually looks pretty interesting, even though I am sure some people will point out, "it is not historicaly accurate." Because it is easy to know what happend 10,000 years ago, and just because it says it in a book, it MUST be true. I think there is a book like that where people follow it blindly because it is written, hmmm,,,oh yeah, The Bible. I am sure everthing in there is historicaly correct. Oh, sorry, got way off topic. THis is a great remake for him, special effects laden movie. This is the kind of movie that is prime for remake. Any special effects movie from back in the day should totally be remade today.

God in Heaven No!!!!!! Fantastic Voyage is a classic sci-fi film? Why do these hack hollywood directors have to screw with great films? Emmerich is like Michael Bay - lots of eye candy, no story. No depth of plot or characters.

This is the perfect candidate for a remake. Great concept (truly innovative for the time), lots of eye candy as the crew encounters set piece after set piece of crises to resolve, but loaded with bad science, one-dimensional characters and wooden acting. In other words, Emmerich is practically fated to remake it.
