Lucas Denies Shia Taking over INDY - Aug 08, 2008 - 11:49am
I was so disappointed with Indy IV and the whole sci-fi alien thing. After reading the Complete Making of Indiana Jones (J.W. Rinzier's latest book), I think we can officially thank Lucas for running the franchise into the ground. He was set on the whole 1950's sci-fi alien thing back in 1992 when Harrison Ford did his cameo for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Ford was like..."no way."
Over the years, he stuck with this idea despite repeated attempts by Ford and Spielberg to try and convince him to change his mind, but he wouldn't. Spielberg and Ford apparently got tired of waiting for Lucas to come to his senses and gave in and the result was Indy IV.
Lucas seriously needs to be stopped!
SDCC: 4 Minutes of CLONE WARS - Jul 27, 2008 - 08:23pm
More of the same old thing from the prequels. Don't know if its enough to get me into the theater. But we'll see:)
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 27, 2008 - 08:19pm
TDK Rules!
Been dying to go see it again! It's just great to see so many positive reviews for a film that truly deserves the spotlight:) Here's to TDK breaking the $400 million record!!!
Singer Takes to the Future with FORMULA - Jul 25, 2008 - 07:55pm
Sorry Hanso I disagree on Sturgess. Like Routhe, he looks way too much like a "wet-behind-the-ears" kid.
I think either George Eads from CSI or an even better choice would be Jack Coleman from Heroes for the MAN of Steel. They both have the more mature look, the physique and both can act.
New Redband Footage for PUNISHER - Jul 25, 2008 - 10:50am
I'm with Hanso. This is gonna suck.
Mindless violence can't make up for a great story and good characters and this movie looks like it has none. Looks like they want that "Grindhouse" look and we all know how that flopped at the box office. While some fanboys are gonna love this, its just not going to fly with anyone else.
The Dark Knight makes this look like a homemade fan film:)
Singer Takes to the Future with FORMULA - Jul 25, 2008 - 10:41am
LOL! My point exactly joey...
Should have been titled SuperBOY Returns. I honestly never liked Singer even when he did X-men. While X2 was decent, the first one was crap. Now that Marvel is calling the shots they should definitely reboot that franchise too.
The Dark Knight is definitely the new standard:)
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 03:55pm
I don't know guys. I still think Harvey is really alive. That fall at the end wasn't that bad and Batman survived it. I think in actuality Gordon and Batman allowed everyone to believe that Dent was dead to preserve his credibility as a hero and so that he would serve as a martyr while secretly setting him up in Arkham Asylum. Mark my words....Two Face will return:)
THE DARK KNIGHT: The Joker's Wild! - Jul 18, 2008 - 09:40pm
Hanso, You are right on the money my friend!
THE DARK KNIGHT OWNS SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best Batman movie ever made to date! This is the version of the Joker I have been waiting for. Cold, sadistic, psychopathic and totally without mercy! Very much like the Joker in "The Killing Joke" and "Arkham Asylum". Nicholson has nothing on Ledger! And Burton certainly has nothing on Nolan! This is the definitive version of The Dark Knight!
SPOILERS******
I am so glad the Joker is still in the picture bit obviously sad over the fact that its such a tragedy that Ledger won't get the chance to reprise the role. I am a bit perplexed about Two Face though. We are led to believe that he's dead but somehow I don't think so. I think that Gordon chose to allow Gotham to think he's dead so they can remember Dent for who he was so he could be remembered as a hero and a martyr. But something tells me Dent has secretly been put up in Arkham Asylum, to be keep his new persona a secret. Along with the Joker of course. The fall Dent took wasn't that bad and Batman survived it. Just stands to reason that Dent was still alive but unconscious. It was also good to see the Scarecrow make an appearance.
Overall the story is just one twist after another. As other have mentioned here, it is very much a crime drama but one that teeters on the edge of sanity. I felt the film really allowed for an awesome look at the endless battle between the Joker and Batman. Chaos vs. Justice. The Joker exists only to "watch the world burn" and Batman exist only to try and save it. It was so refreshing to see a film where characters were the center of the story. I have read most of the reviews here and I notice that there have been very little comments about visual fx and the elaborate action pieces. Mostly everyone here is commenting on the characters! This just goes to show that you don't need thousands of fx shots to tell a story. (Lucas needs to take some notes here).
Overall this film ruled. I will definitely be going to see this one again:) And to the guy who reviewed this, you need to change your rating to an A+++++++++++++++++++++++
THE DARK KNIGHT OWNS SON!!!!
SO SAY WE ALL:)
Stan Winston Passes Away at 62 - Jun 16, 2008 - 08:28pm
Stan...you were the man:)
An artist and an expert at creating awesome special effects and make-up. You will live on through the films you so expertly helped craft. Rest in peace:)
First Teaser Trailer for PUNISHER - Jun 13, 2008 - 01:42pm
No offense Wise...but I don't think so. First impressions can make or break a film. Consider this one broken.
First Teaser Trailer for PUNISHER - Jun 13, 2008 - 12:29pm
Looks like crap...I'd be surprised if it gets a theatrical release. This has the stench of "Straight to DVD" all over it.
To quote Kramer..."That makes me the premiere!"
Box Office: Paramount Finds Memorial Day Treasure with INDY - May 26, 2008 - 06:03pm
Just saw the film today and I have to say that while it was great to see Indy back, the film just wasn't that great. I honestly feel this is the worst of the series. I know a lot of people love to knock Temple of Doom (which I actually love), but this falls below that mark for me. I kept wanting to love this but by the end I was just really depressed. I loved the original trilogy and this one just doesn't fit with it. There were a great deal of scenes (most that have been mentioned by other fans here) that made me cringe. I really did lower my expectations going in but that didn't help.
While I did enjoy seeing Indy again and there were a few parts that I liked, as a whole this film just felt extremely flat compared to the others in the series. I missed Indy's sarcasm and wit. I missed the banter with other characters (The Mac character was just really lame and the Ox character was nothing but a mumbling old fool). And the muggufin was just too out there to fit in with the rest of the series. While I know that it is based on an actual relic, the whole sci-fi twist was just too much.
I also agree that traditional fx and filming were missed here too. I know a lot of people want to blame Lucas, but I have to say the blame falls on Lucas and Spielberg. (Let's not forget that Spielberg did direct JP2: The Lost World which was extremely bad.) I think as filmmakers, they both have begun to loose touch with their original audience. And that is kind of the problem. We're all adults now and the kiddie stuff just doesn't play to us anymore.
I totally agree that after 19 years, they certainly could have delivered something a lot better.
Laura Dern Returns for JURASSIC 4 - May 19, 2008 - 05:32am
I wish they would stop making sequels and go back and revamp the series, following the first two novels more closely. I loved JP when it first came out up until I read the novel by Micheal Chrichton. It was way different and way better! It pretty much blew the movie out of the water. And don't even get me started on how awesome the novel for The Lost World was and how really crappy the movie was. In my opinion, had Spielberg stuck with the books as source material for both films, they would have been a lot better. JP3 was quite honestly made up from much of the scenes in the original JP novel that were not in the first film.
They would be wise if they revamped the series and go back to the novels as source material. For those who would comment and say, "why do a remake?" Trust me. If you've read the books, you would know that they wouldn't be remakes at all.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN - May 17, 2008 - 06:19pm
Saw it today. It was really great! For those who comment that it has less spirituality than the first, I greatly disagree. In fact I think it has even more than the first. At its heart, its a story about losing faith and attempting to use human efforts as a means to achieve that which can only be achieved by faith. Once the characters surrender to this truth, they are able to step into their true purpose and emerge victorious. Highly entertaining and fun! A+++
Third Indy Trailer Online - May 12, 2008 - 05:43am
Just a re-edit of trailer 2. But will definitely be there:)
IRON MAN Takes Checkered Flag - May 12, 2008 - 05:35am
As for Thor, best casting choice would be Vladimir Kulich. He was in 13th Warrior. Yeah he's a bit older now but I still think he'd be perfect.
I honestly think the main reason I liked Iron Man was because they didn't cast a "Dawson's Creek", "wet behind the ears" kid. I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of that. Just look at the success of Batman Begins and now Iron Man. Its in the casting! Older more refined and experienced actors make the characters more authentic. It certainly wasn't like casting Routhe in SuperBOY Returns (Still glad I never saw that crapfest).
IRON MAN Takes Checkered Flag - May 12, 2008 - 05:25am
Narnia will take number one next week for sure. Its a family film and its riding on the coat tails of the success of the first one. No doubt, Iron Man will be a very close second. Week after, Indy will definitely take number one with Narnia in second and Iron Man in third.
Eckhart Talks About TWO-FACE - May 05, 2008 - 09:06am
Great catch on both counts TayDor! I think I even see a hint of white hair on the disfigured side. This film is going to be great:)
JUSTICE LEAGUE Losing Against Australia - Mar 19, 2008 - 05:08am
Hey if it stops this crapfest from being made then I'm all for it. JLA deserves better treatment than what these guys have in store. This should be a project that should wait until until it can be given a proper script and cast. When a movie production's main focus is marketing and money instead of story, character and substance then it shouldn't be made. I imagine the conversation around the exec table at WB is pretty much like this: "I don't know a thing about JLA...I's like Superfriends right? Well the bottom line is the cartoon is doing fantastic, so lets slap together a young teen cast to ensure that we can do like five sequels and lets put together some awesome visual effects and make this a live action movie..." If this movie gets made now, I guarantee its going to be way below the expectations of the fans.
Special Edition INDY DVDS May 13 - Mar 03, 2008 - 06:38pm
I'll wait until they release it on Blue Ray with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
New Toy Reveals CLOVERFIELD Monster - Feb 16, 2008 - 07:12pm
Man if this was the monster in Cloverfield then I am glad I passed on it and saved my money. What a hunk of crap!
HD-DVD Backers Switching to Blu-Ray? - Jan 10, 2008 - 05:12am
Glad I stopped buying regular DVDs and waited for this HD format issue to get settled. I believe its obvious now that Blue Ray will be the winner. Just a month or so more and I can actually buy a new movie for my collection.
Director Says JUSTICE LEAGUE 'On Schedule' - Dec 08, 2007 - 10:05am
It's the whole "SuperBOY Returns" syndrome. Casting people that look like they belong on a WB teen soap like Dawson's Creek or the O.C. Just a stupid move.
JOKER Site Updated for Halloween - Oct 31, 2007 - 04:07pm
well the game continues... I'm with southpaw. This film has has some of the best marketing ploys ever. People get too much for free these days :)

Pretty cool!
Diesel, Walker Both FAST & FURIOUS Again? - Oct 03, 2007 - 05:14pm
Yeah I didn't even see the first 2 or 3. They all looked the same to me. No story, no characters, no substance. Just flashy cars nothing more.
New ALIENS VS. PREDATOR:REQUIEM Trailer - Oct 03, 2007 - 05:12pm
Still looks stupid. Again the human element in this looks really weak. Set it on another planet in the future with marines with cool gear and I'll buy a ticket.
Update: Jessica Biel Out of WONDER WOMAN - Sep 29, 2007 - 03:25pm
Best news I heard all day :) Sorry but Jessica Biel is soooo overrated and can't act her way out of a paper bag.
Latest AVP:REQUIEM Trailer Hits - Sep 20, 2007 - 10:17pm
This movie looks about as crappy as the previous one. The story looks about as solid as jello. The only way an AVP movie would kick ass is if it took place on another planet. I'm sorry but the weakest part of the AVP franchise so far has been the human element. The first film had explorers. This one has stupid civilians in a town. It's just a recipe for disaster. If you look at the the most successful Predator film and the most successful Aliens film you will note that the human element involved the military. Set the action on another world with a strong human element like the military and I'm there. Till then I'll pass on the stupid human cattle treatment.
New BEOWULF Trailer Online - Sep 20, 2007 - 08:23am
I'm definitely intrigued by what I've seen so far, but one thing has me irked. I am getting a little tired of the "300 style" yelling by main characters in some of these kind of movies lately. The yelling in this new trailer just brought back painful memories of how tired I got of the promos for 300's theatrical release and the release of the DVD. "THIS...IS SPARTA!!!" "THIS...IS WHERE WE FIGHT!!!" "THIS... IS WHERE THEY DIE!!!" THIS...IS WHERE I GET ANNOYED!!! I mean really! Can't you cut a promo together that sounds a little more intelligent? Now this new Beowulf trailer is out and we get "I AM BEOWULF!!!" To be honest, the barbaric yelling thing is so played.
Rockstar's Changes to MANHUNT 2 - Sep 13, 2007 - 06:44am
"artists"?
I don't believe there is anything artistic about this game. It's an orgy of murdering and killing. This is how low we as a society have become that we make games that train our young people to become serial killers and earn points for it. I don't think "adults" have any business indulging in this kind of depravity either. Honestly, its trash.
Every time someone shoots up a school or preys on a number of innocent victims the question always arises...."why?" "Why would God allow such evil? Why would He allow such senseless violence?" There is no reason this question should ever be asked. Because the answer is simple: Free will. Free will to make choices. Free will to indulge in this kind of junk. So don't ask "why" anymore people. Do an evaluation of our choices as a society and you will find the answer.
Barnes Talks PRINCE CASPIAN - Jul 31, 2007 - 02:01pm
Time passes faster in Narnia than it does in our world, Wiskey. The kids aged while in Narnia but when they returned to the real world, only minutes had passed so in this world they are still young. When they return to Narnia in Prince Caspian, they enter Narnia as kids again.
Superman Sequel Update - Jul 02, 2007 - 10:37pm
nah hanso...the biggest problem was casting a scrawny kid in the role of the Man of Steel. BOYcott SuperBOY!
The SEX-Box - Apr 13, 2007 - 11:13am
"As for Christians not enjoying some good violence in their movies - seriously, have you not seen excerpts from Passion of the Christ?"
Well Merin, I would just like to say that as a Christian, Passion of the Christ wasn't a film I went to see for entertainment. It was a film I went to see to be reminded of the price that was paid for my transgressions. The imagery should make you feel sick. Because that crucifixion was carried out for me..for you..and for the entire world.
Should parents have encouraged their children to go and see this film? My answer would have to be no. A child really has no need to be seeing Passion of the Christ. But I do believe that they should be taught from the Word about the events that took place.
I'm glad to see that you do do have placed certain values on what your children are subjected to. Context is definitely a good measuring factor.
Don't get me wrong. I think that violence and sex are sometimes necessary in the context of telling a story. A good example is the story of David from the Bible. Now lets be honest. You could never tell the story of David without violence or sex. The guy was a military leader, a warrior, and at the height of his power he succumbed to temptation by lusting after a married woman, sleeping with her, and then murdering her husband to cover it up. Now would a film depicting his life require violence and sex to tell it? Yes it would. But its would be in the context of a man who lived, messed up, and obtained God's favor anyway. So given that example I would have to agree that context has a lot to do with things.
I guess in the end its all about the way stuff is depicted. Is the violence and sex are on the screen for the sake of story or for the sake of encouraging immorality? Everyone will have a different opinion. But I personally think that if its in a game that is targeted toward kids then there is a good chance that it isn't to serve a story.
The SEX-Box - Apr 13, 2007 - 10:44am
"Many Christians and Christian groups attack sex, but not violence and gore..."
When Christians attack! LOL! Well I do see your point.
But I would venture to say that true Christianity doesn't attack the immoral, but instead ministers the truth about morality. I personally would not go and attack anyone, because that doesn't solve anything. Who am I to judge others? To judge isn't my job. But to share the truth is.
I would say say that violence and sex in games and films goes a long way to seduce people into living immoral lives. Rather than seeking the truth about such things, people "go with the flow". This way of thinking and living goes way beyond sex and violence.
Do violent films and games make people more violent? Does sexual content make people more prone to having sex? Not necessarily. But they do encourage don't they? And as our appetites for violence and sex become more desensitized there is the need for more and more to satisfy. And I think this is where today's society is now. Just look at all the violence in the world. Sex is a little harder to see. But just think for a moment. If infidelity and broken marriages were reported with the same fervor as killings and brutal violence, wouldn't we see some alarming statistics? That's really why most people out there think sex isn't that big of a deal. The truth is a well kept secret.
The SEX-Box - Apr 13, 2007 - 09:29am
Sorry Merin, but I would say the woman wasn't a Christian.
True Christiany seeks to follow after a higher standard. If she was truly a Christian, she wouldn't even have been in line for the movie you described with her kids.
For true Christians, sex and violence isn't a double standard. It is seen an equal one.
As for the issue in question, I have to just ask a question that hasn't been addressed. Since when is sex considered a game?
By desensitizing people to sexual content, they begin to devalue the real thing. It becomes a casual act that has no real value. And for children it becomes an area of confusion. I honestly think its a sad thing that sex has been stripped down to a dehumanized act. I has no luster. No true value whatsoever.
Sex has its true place in the bonds of marriage. Now I know a lot of people are going to come back and attack me and that's ok. I realize that in this world, people are going to do what they want and aren't interested in hearing an opinion that goes against the grain. But I wouldn't be a true Christian if I didn't speak out.
Jake Gyllenhaal joins "Shazam!"? - Mar 15, 2007 - 02:38pm
What is with casting scrawny kid faced actors in the roles of bigger than life superheroes? They already ruined Superman by casting Routh. Why the hell cast Gyllenhaal as the world mightest mortal!? C'mon Hollywood! Cast actors that actually fit the role! You can try and try but casting BOYS in the roles of MEN just doesn't make sense...no matter what you're little marketing book says.
Matt Marsden joins "Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra" - Feb 15, 2007 - 07:42am
Why is the plot moronic KJ? Because it involves a group of CHRISTIAN missionaries? I suspect that if it involved a group of devil worshipers or sadistic tortures it would be cool huh? I happen to think that the plot sounds really cool and I find it refreshing to have a Christian element in an action film.
Weekend Box Office Report for January 26-28 - Jan 29, 2007 - 12:07pm
Its a sad day when a crapfest like "Epic Movie" is number one at the box office. What a waste of celluloid.
I had the opportunity to see "Letters from Iwo Jima" this weekend and I have to say that it was excellent. I saw "Flags of our Fathers" several months ago and I have to admit that "Letters" was a much more engaging approach to the story. It portrayed the Japanese in a light that shattered everything we ever grew up believing. It was shot beautifully and the story emotionally riveting.
I absolutely hate when these kind of films get so little press while crap like "Epic Movie" is heralded as a must see. Our entertainment industry is really in need of new creative minds that truly appreciate film as an art medium and not a garbage disposal.
"Superman Returns" sequel: Shorter, tighter, action-packed - Jan 17, 2007 - 10:39am
20105, not bad considering I never saw the thing, huh? Just goes to show that nowadays, trailers are giving away too much of the film. For some of them, you get the entire film (from beginning to end no less!) in two minutes. Hollywood needs to relearn the lost art of creative enticement. Then again they just need to learn how to be creative period.
"Superman Returns" sequel: Shorter, tighter, action-packed - Jan 17, 2007 - 10:31am
Thanks for the the respect wessmith. My opinions are based on what I know of the film which was enough to make me want to pass. And given that people actually believe I have seen it when I really haven't tells me that what I already knew about it was enough to form an opinion.
I respect that there are people out there that enjoyed the film and I think that's great. But on the flip side, I personally think the whole franchise should go away for a few years. That would give someone else the opportunity to pick it up and really do something better with it.
A sequel to an already bad film, in my opinion, is only going to be the nail in the coffin.
"Superman Returns" sequel: Shorter, tighter, action-packed - Jan 17, 2007 - 08:43am
Nope never saw it.
Brandon Routh was certainly not the only reason this film sucked. The story, the cast, the whole crappy rehash of the original film. The action being bogged down once again by the same tired love story. The stupid idea of Superman having a kid. And one crappy action sequence involving a crashing plane. Believe it or not I got all this from the TRAILER. I didn't have to see the film to get all this.
Once again people continue confuse actor's interpretation with the actual written character. That is mostly the problem when it comes to a new Superman film. People want to see Reeve. I think he did a good job with the first film, but from then on it was all downhill. He was never, in my opinion, the ultimate portrayal of Superman. People have confused the character with the actor for too long. That's why a departure from the original material was in order. Too bad Bryan Singer wasn't smart enough to see that. Now he's struggling to try and salvage a franchise. SuperBOY Returns was not as well received as he thought would be. He cast a person to replace Christopher Reeve instead of casting someone for the role of SUPERMAN. Add to that the he didn't present an original story, didn't introduce a new villain, and that he tried to do a whole soap opera thing with our hero and you have a recipe for one hell of a crapfest.
Boy I'm sure glad I didn't waste my money.
"Superman Returns" sequel: Shorter, tighter, action-packed - Jan 17, 2007 - 08:15am
Crappiest movie of the year. And I didn't even have to see it to know that it was the crappiest movie of the year. There was little much of an audience for the first so it stands to reason that there will be even less people interested in the sequel. Brandon Routh's "SuperBOY" is just not going to cut it. They could pack it with action from beginning to end, its still going to be some scrawny kid in tights and not the Man of Steel.
"Madden NFL 06'" Porn Surprise! - Jan 04, 2007 - 09:35am
Another slow news day at Mania, huh?. I have to agree with dragon, this is most likely a hoax. But even if it were true, I fail to see the humor.
Actor Peter Boyle passes away - Dec 14, 2006 - 11:55am
Thanks for all the laughs Peter! I still laugh everytime I see Young Frankenstien. He was a comedy genius on Everybody Loves Raymond. And who could forget his moment on SNL with John Belushi as the "Dueling Brandos" LOL. He will surely be missed.
Remembering Shirley Walker - Dec 07, 2006 - 06:16pm
I will always remember Shirley Walker for her work on the Batman Animated Series and movie. She was great at composing some really engaging scores. She will truly be missed.
Super DVD Day - Nov 30, 2006 - 02:52pm
What a crappy way to try and sell SuperBOY Returns discs. It's obvious they will try anything to try and make back some money on that flop.
"Battlestar Galactica" moving to Sunday - Nov 21, 2006 - 01:35pm
Man that sux. Why not move that crappy Dr. Who show to Sunday and keep BSG right where it is? With SG1 ending soon and now this move, SciFi Fridays may be no more. In my opinion...if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Brandon Routh talks "Superman Returns" Sequel - Nov 06, 2006 - 05:45pm
No amount of time in the gym is going to make this kid believable as the Man of Steel. And making a sequel to a film that was pretty much a flop is a really bad idea.
Wesley Snipes indicted for tax fraud - Oct 18, 2006 - 06:55am
Sorry ponyboy, but Jessica Biel sux. She and Ryan Reynolds were a big reason for why Trinity sucked. Biel can't act her way out of a paper bag and her looks are highly overrated. Just remember the fight scenes she had while listening to her ipod....GIMME A BREAK.
Ford was like..."no way." Over the years, he stuck with this idea despite repeated attempts by Ford and Spielberg to try and convince him to change his mind, but he wouldn't. Spielberg and Ford apparently got tired of waiting for Lucas to come to his senses and gave in and the result was Indy IV. Lucas seriously needs to be stopped!
