Report: Manga books dominate graphic novel sales

Reflects sales in bookstores only

By Mike Whybark     November 20, 2002
Source: ICV2.com

ICV2.com reports that, based on an undisclosed source, eighteen of the top twenty graphic novels sold in U. S. bookstores are Tokyopop-published manga titles. The other two are Marvel's MARVEL ENCYCLOPEDIA and ULTIMATES IV SUPER HUMAN.

The top two titles and nine of the eighteen manga were volumes of Tokyopop's CHOBITS and LOVE HINA series. The story notes the difference between the report and Diamond distribution reports but does not conclusively explain the difference.
