FUNimation is slowly giving out a bit of information on one of their more mysterious licenses with Phantom ~ Requiem for the Phantom ~. The series was one of the earlier simulcasts that the company picked up back at the beginning of 2009. The shows entire 26 episode run made it through without a hitch and is still available on their site, subtitle only, to view even now. While the show finished its run a bit ago, word has been very meager on when to expect a home video release. That's changed now, at least a tiny bit, as the official site has gone up and we've now learned that we can expect the series to arrive in 2011 on DVD and Blu-ray.
"One of the most highly reviewed and popular titles of the new season, the Bee Train produced series is an adaptation of the “Phantom of Inferno” visual game software from the game production company Nitroplus and its original script writer Gen Urobuchi (“Blassreiter”). The story centers around a mysterious organization called Inferno and its "Phantom," the organization's most elite assassin. This assassin’s true identity is compromised by an unwitting witness. Witnesses are usually killed but this witness is brainwashed into become Inferno’s newest assassin and enters a world of intrigue and violence.
