Check out Gamestop. They've got a list of games that, if you trade in two of 'em, you can get this for $19.99.

Hi Hanso, The game is roughly 15-20 hours. Thanks for backing me up earlier. For some people the obvious isn't so obvious!

So, it was fine in the other games to shoot them peskey white zombies? hehehehe
Sometimes I think the world just tries too hard to stay PC. I just saw the trailer and thought the graphics rocked and if it scared the crap out of me while playing, it was money well spent!

I agree with ultrazilla that sometimes people spend way to much time looking for flaws. And Josh, your review (the point of the article) was cool and I'm counting the days till I can get it!

Hi Mhalakai, Thanks for your level headedness :)

Strangely enough I haven't found the game particularly scary but I'm really, really loving it. It has more of an adventure feel than a horror vibe though, believe me though, there is a great deal of horror in the game. I am really enjoying the setting, it really is a great breath of fresh air from your typical zombie and horror setting.

Graver7, You have my respect. I appreciate your latest post and the points you raise. I also understand your position about not needing to shine a light on every single potential hot bed issue. I personally like to hear what people think and how certain things make them feel. I'm a psych major so that figures, I guess.  I was caught a little by surprised myselfwhen I first saw the RE 5 trailer in question and so I'm interested in knowing how people are percieving the game now that it's been released.

Thanks again for your post, much respect to you, sir.

As someone who usually just comes to this site to read the articles this was an issue that I felt the need to reply to. Once again, this looks to be political correctness taken to an insane level.

I have been playing the game and I am curious when do I get to unlock the White Hood and Robe for Chris? Wait, you mean it isn't in there? How about when I get to transport all people in the game to the Southern part of the U.S. in the 1800s. Huh? You are telling me that I can't do that either. Well there has to be one where I can turn my African partner Sheva into a caucasian so that we can go on a killing spree together as pure aryans.

Yes i realize there are all ridiculous examples, because it hopefully shows how silly this really is. To sum up I do have just 2 quick questions. How did you feel about RE4 when they were killing Spaniards? (I don't recall a huge outcry then). Second, have you seen or reviewed the 50 Cent game Blood in the Sand where I believe an African American goes around killing people of Arab descent the entire time. Where is that outrage?

hanso 3/17/2009 6:03:55 PM

I think we should start an outrage cause 50 Cent  has another game out.

Mataa 3/18/2009 6:06:22 AM

 Now that's something I agree 100% with Hanso. =)

Maata, If you read the last paragraph of the review and you look at my comments here, it should clear up your misconceptions about what you think I wrote.

Look guys gamers have been sticking it to the Viet Cong, the Nazis,  Middle eastern extremists, police officers and hookers for years.  These creatures are infected, they're not African villagers anymore, and the only reason some of them are dressing the way they do is because the infection is causing some of the more rural villagers to revert to older, aggressive tribal behaviour.  (One of the diaries indicates this).

I'm a firm believer that entertainment does not dictate morality or that it should even always reflect it, otherwise we'd stop punishing digital Germans for WWII.  Capcom had no intention of offending anyone with the setting and populous of the game.  In fact they raise the issue numerous times about how tragic it is that these pharmaceutical corporations are interfering in Africa in the first place.  ('Cause that never happens in real life right?)  If anything they're making a powerful statement through a horror game about how Africa has been used as the world's lab rat.

Even the characters wearing tribal dress don't strike me as caricatures or parodies, they're people descended from warrior tribes who have been infected with a violent organism that's connected itself to their central nervous systems causing them to revert to their ancestoral dress and armament.

The same kinds of arguments were made about  Resident Evil 4 about Spaniards, and they were just as silly.  The first few games were set in the U.S. and nobody percieved them as being anti-American.  Get over it, it's a game.  It's entertainment, and not offensive to anybody who isn't hypersensitive to such things.  Racism still exists, but let's not go looking for it in places where it wasn't intended.
