Capcom held a press conference in Japan and announced that the RESIDENT EVIL series will be completely remade for the Nintendo GameCube, and that the franchise is now exclusive to Nintendo's console.
The surprise announcement came on the eve of the GameCube launch in Japan. Series creator Shinji Mikami will head the remakes which feature GREATLY updated graphics and sound as well as new story elements. RESIDENT EVIL 0 will also be released for the GameCube.
Mikami decided that releasing the series across multiple platforms was unfair to gamers.
After RESIDENT EVIL 0, RESIDENT EVIL, RESIDENT EVIL 2, RESIDENT EVIL 3: NEMESIS, and RESIDENT EVIL CODE:VERONICA are released, Capcom will release RESIDENT EVIL 4 for the GameCube.
This announcement floored our writers, more as it breaks.
