 There can only be ....another!

I'm planning on filming the Hispanic version of Highlander with an all-Hispanic cast.

There can be only...Juan!

I think Daniel Craig would be a great Highlander.  Funny I like him in everything else but James Bond.

Ryan Reynolds always does his job, and he's good at it.  He's brilliant at voice immitations and can easily do most accents, but I don't know if they'll want him to do that for any of this role.  He's one of the funniest and most charming people on the planet, but the problem is that he's built like a super hero and he's being shoe-horned into all these action roles where the big paychecks are, and there is nothing wrong with that at all only his directors always want that little slice of sarcasm and joker in his performances.  He can drop the shit and get serious and he can do much more than he's been asked to do in his last few mainstream performances.  The Nines, Chaos Theory and Buried are excellent proof of that.  Comedy and Drama are where he truly belongs but with his physique and face he's been on every short list for all the big action movies for the last 5 years.  I don't know about this one, very mixed feelings on this one but it's going to be all up to the writing and directing as to whether or not it'll work, Reynolds wil do his job no matter what.  He's kind of like the Dane Cook that guys actually like, so just be glad that Dane Cook hasn't tried to infiltrate action movies.....

Death4sale, just awesome dude!

The original had all kinds of messed up casting...a Frenchman playing a Scot and a Scot playing a Spaniard (not an Egyptian I don't think, since Connery's character was called Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez), and so on. But it worked, mostly. It shouldn't have, but it did. Turned out to be the high point of Russell Mulcahy's career too, since it's been all downhill since then.

So, Ryan Reynolds? Sure I can see why they cast him. He's got genre experience, (bad genre experience admittedly), is reckoned to be a bit of a looker (by those who are best placed to appreciate that) and tends to bring a human, emotional side to his portrayals (which wouldn't be out of place for Connor MacLeod). So it adds up on paper as a casting choice.

But no, I don't much like it either. I don't have any problems with the idea of a reboot/remake/redo/rewhatever, but I'm alwys concerned when you hear about who is in a movie before you find out who's directing it or writing it. It just sounds like a vehicle otherwise.

FrozenFear 6/29/2012 8:18:34 AM

Lord.... Shouldn't he be focusing on not making the Deadpool movie?

Harry, to be nitpicky, Ramirez was originally Egyptian, several thousand years old.  He lived in a number of countries over the centuries assuming appropriately regional identities, Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, chief metalurgist for the King of Spain just being the latest.

As I said before, this sounds interesting, Reynolds nationality isn't the issue the other Maniacs are making it out to be and I look forward to seeing the original with updated fight choreography and special effects

I think it'd be fun if Antonio Banderas played Ramirez. A Spaniard playing an Egyptian whose pretending to be a Spaniard.

Higgy 6/29/2012 11:11:15 AM

Why not...Antonio played an Arab in the 13th Warrior...not much difference.

FYI, I never said Lambert was Scottish.  I just said Reynolds didn't look scottish...he doesn't have the build.  I liked Adrian Paul as Highlander the best.  Although the last movie sucked.  Out of the 4 movies the 1st was the best (I know they all sucked, really, but the 1st movie is a guilty pleasure).

I know my Highlander...after all my gaming name was Highlander, and my online buddies nicknamed me Higgy.  And I just can't see him as it...but I've been surprised before...Michael Keaton as Batman, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.  So I'm keeping my hopes up.

This is the one time I don't think Fassbender would make a good Highlander.  He's more of a Bond to me.  And Daniel Craig sucks at acting so please no.

I don't know if anyone has said it but, why do we assume the director/writers are having Reynolds stay Scottish in this remake? The whole Highlander series has been a complete cluster. They could be changing up origins and starting fresh.
