Reynolds Ready for FLASH in JLA Movie

In the not so distant past, actor Ryan Reynolds told media outlets that a FLASH movie was dead in the water. Not anymore. With rumors of a JLA movie heating up, the comic fan has indicated that things are heating up to both MTV and IGN. He's also made it clear he's ready to don the red tights for either the JLA movie or the long rumored stand alone (which NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM director Shawn Levy was once attached)...

Here's what he told MTV yesterday:

"No, the Flash isn't dead at all. There's talk of it being a [Justice League of America] movie," he grinned. "And then there's other talk of doing a Flash movie with ['Night at the Museum' director] Shawn Levy."

For months, questions about the red-suited superhero have been met with a shrug of the shoulders from Reynolds, who insisted it was no longer a go. But now Reynolds has coyly let loose that he is indeed still in talks. "There are rumblings," he said.

"I don't really know how much I'm allowed to talk about that stuff," he declared. "[But] it's no secret that they have a JLA script and it's a project that's in development."

In fact, the only thing faster than the Flash is how quickly Reynolds would jump at the chance to play the character.

"I'd love to do it, it's just making it feasible," he contended. "It's a lot of money and it's a very difficult character to represent. You can't just have [the Flash] be a blur running by. These days people need to see more than that."

Granted superhuman speed, the Flash was a masked identity assumed by four different fictional characters in the comic canon, the most famous and longest-running of whom were Barry Allen and Wally West. Of the two, Reynolds seems most a match for the sarcastic West, but the 30-year-old actor says that his ideal "Flash" movie would have both.

"I'd like to see both Barry Allen and Wally [in a film]," Reynolds said. "I think they're really interesting characters, both cut from the same cloth."

But it was a possible JLA movie that had the actor most excited. According to Reynolds, the Justice League could be the perfect introduction to the character.

"I'd love to see a full-on Justice League movie done, the scope of which is just enormous," he asserted, clearly delighted with the thought of fighting crime alongside possible co-stars Christian Bale (Batman) and Brandon Routh (Superman). "I think it's something they can pull off."

(Editors note: Bale has indicated today during a press junked that he isn't going to be involved and Warner Bros shouldn't rush out JLA. See the other story on the site.--Jarrod)

I wonder if they'll make his character the comic relief. He could pull that off.

If you think he is only one note, you must have missed Smoking Guns. I think he would be perfect as a Wally West Flash. The guy is in great shape, he can be funny, but also quite serious. Hell, he was the only saving grace in Blade Trinity. I'd place my vote for the guy. Finally, a superhero with a personality.

I think you mean 'Smokin Aces', but nevertheless, I agree. Reynolds' range is more than comedic, and he certainly fits the mold for superhero.

Yeah, I don't get why so many people on here give this guy shit. I think he's a good comedic actor, and can also play "tough as hell" when needed. I thought he was the best part about "Blade: Trinity"...well, aside from Jessica Biel.

I would buy into Reynolds as the Flash...he could puill it off with either Barry or Wally, but I think he would be better served as West. I did enjoy him in Blade Trinity...he was the saving grace....

In Smokin' Aces...I enjoyed his character in that movie, so I know that he's capable of keeping it together given the right material...he wasn't that bad in the Amitiville Horror either, so there's something there that could work...also because he's a fan of the comic..I think that he would take it the way that it needs to go...

He is in Superhero shape...so it wouldn't be hard for him....this could work in an odd way

I love Ryan Reynolds, I think he is amazingly funny, and I do have a slight man crush on him. Even though he reminds me of Chevy Chase, I think he has much more of a range and he was in the one movie that actually scared me in recent years which was the Amittyville Horror remake. I don't know why it scared me, but it did. I think he wold be a great flash, hell he would even be a great Batman.

Agreed on the Amityville Horror remake..Ryan R. was one sinister character in that film. Just the "looks" and facial expressions was something..

I know a lot of people associate him with comedy in much the same way as others associate Chris Evans with comedy due to his "performance" in Fantastic Four..but both these actors have done more serious roles inside the industry. They shouldn't be just remembered for a few comedies.

Ryan would make a good Fletch...and a good Flash.

What's more is he's an admitted comic fan...He would feel it its his duty to live up to the character for fans.

This guy actually wants the role, knows comics and can pull off the Flash. WB are retards if they don't make this guy an offer, specially if the JL is being put on the fast track like it seems to be.

oriongreenguy • Aug 21, 2007, 09:05pm •
Bah. Forget about a FLASH movie. Let Ryan be the next-gen Flash in a new TV series.

Whiskeymovie • Aug 21, 2007, 09:15pm •
I agree Jarrod, Ryan would make a better Fletch than Jason Lee...and Chris Evans was very good in Sunshine and also in Cellular. And as I am watching Smokn Aces as I type, I want to see more Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman and yes, even Ben Affleck. And let us not forget Jeremy "Droz" Piven.
