It looks like Rihanna is the latest R&B recording artist to make the jump to feature films, with Variety reporting her first acting gig is on none other than Peter Berg's upcoming sci-fi epic Battleship. The singer will be joining the previously confirmed stars Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard. Based on the Hasbro board game, but changed to include alien invasion elements, helmer Berg is adapting from a script by Jon and Erich Hoeber. Universal Pictures is distributing.
Plot Concept: will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Kitsch stars as a Naval officer who leads the fight and Skarsgard will play his brother in the film.
Battleship will sail into theaters May 18, 2012.
I saw her in some cheerleading movie a few years ago ( Right...C'mon who hasn't had to watch a shitty chick flick with their significant other every now and then...) and...She's not a very good celebrity cameo line reader, let alone actress. Wiseguy, I don't know what's going on in this crazy world, but we've been agreeing too much lately. Stop it.
Not a good sign with her on, might change my mind if they dress her down a bit, tone down her attitude. She could be the next Haley Berry maybe?
I find it interesting that the studios are actually taking ideas from just about anything, in this case a board game, (which just about everyone is familar with) and twisting it into something 110% unlike the original inspiration. Why not scrap the inspiration and just make it a half original idea? Next up: Rubik's Cube vs Sudoku featuring Nicholas Cage and Ken Watanabe!
