I just got a sneak peak at the Networks new Fall schedules and there's good news. Some great shows have left the air, good shows have been cancelled, and from the descriptions of the new shows premiering, I'll have PLENTY of time to catch up on my DVD watching.


SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK


Having won every award ever offered, New Line has decided to advance the DVD release of this one by a few months, so you have something to do over Memorial Day weekend.

LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING (New Line) The final chapter of this three part trilogy. Two-disc edition comes in either fullscreen or widescreen with nine Making-Of featurettes, [IMG2R]and more.
(O) LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY (New Line) Box set of the two-disc editions of a little known adaptation of Tolkein's classic story by some guys in New Zealand, in fullscreen and widescreen editions.
(O) WIZARDS (Fox) In 1977, this feature-length sci-fi fantasy from director Ralph Bakshi was the closest thing we could get to LORD OF THE RINGS. Includes director commentrak, featurettes and more.

(O) BORN INNOCENT (VCI) Linda Blair made headlines with this early TV-movie role in a prison story that was a bit too harsh for TV in 1974. This is the uncut version.

(O) BURIAL OF THE RATS (New Concorde) I read Bram Stoker's story a long time ago, so I'm not sure whether there were naked girls frolicking around a hot tub in it or that part is an addition by the filmmakers.

(O) CARRY ON LAUGHING (A&E) Compilation of episodes from the 1975 BBC TV series based on the hugely popular British comedy films.

(O) MANIAC COP 3: BADGE OF SILENCE (First Look) Robert Z'Dar is back again as the evil cop that can't be killed.
(O) A MATTER OF LIFE & DEATH (Columbia TriStar) Classic 1946 Powell & Pressburger fantasy (aka STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN). RAF pilot David Niven unaccountably survives getting shot down, and while angels scramble to correct the mistake, falls for radio operator Kim Hunter. It all ends up in Heaven Court.
(O) MIDNIGHT KISS (First Look) Modern vampires.

(O) OPERATION SCORPIO (Fox) Chin Kar-lok is a cartoonist who gets into real danger when he rescues May Lo from a prostitution racket.
(O) ORGY OF THE DEAD (Rhino) Cult director Ed Wood wrote this mind-bending nudie cutie from the early 1960s in which a young couple is forced by Criswell and his undead minions to watch a parade of horror-themed strippers! We're told the new digital transfer of this long out of print title was personally supervised by director Stephen Apostolof and the disc includes an interview with him.
(O) PRODIGAL SON (Fox) 1981 kung fu classic in which Sammo Hung gives buddy Yuen Biao his first lead role as a pampered rich kid whose kung fu teacher bribes fighters to take falls when facing his student.
(O) THE PROTECTORS Season Two (A&E) Robert Vaughn stars in this 1972 series as the leader of a group of freelance crimefighters.
(O) RACE TO THE MOON (A&E) Fine History Channel series chronicles the NASA's development and space missions. Four episodes, includes commentrak on one.
(O) RAIDERS OF THE SACRED STONE (Razor) 3-D adventure.
(O) ROYAL WARRIORS (Fox) Michelle Yeoh in blazing action in this sequel to her star-making hit YES MADAM.
