DC Direct, the collectible/action figure imprint of DC Comics, has announced plans for a new line of collectibles inspired by KINGDOM COME's Planet Krypton, the faux chain of restaurants that appeared in the comic book mini-series. In the same way that Planet Hollywood restaurants contained items of interest from famous Hollywood movie productions, the gimmick for Planet Krypton was to show off pieces of superhero nolstagia while hungry patrons dined and enjoyed the ambiance.
The first in the Planet Krypton line will be the Green Lantern replica ring set, a limited edition piece that holds mock-ups of five Power Rings. Contained in the set are replicas of rings for Green Lanterns Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott; the yellow Power Ring of ex-Lantern Sinestro; and the ring used by the villanous Power Ring of the Crime Syndicate, an alternate universe version of the Justice League. All of the rings are size 11.
The collection will come inside a hinged, silver-rimmed, satin-lined bengealine hunter green box and includes a protective sleeve. Each of the five rings are cast in pewter with green and gold oxylene coating, with two of them containing green stones and one with pearl-epoxy inserted into its face. While they're not designed for everyday wearing, it's still a fun item to have on display in the reading room of your favorite comic enthusiast.
The Green Lantern replica ring set will ship to stores February 9, 2005 and retail for $99.95.
