According to the Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to star in Jon Favreau's adaptation of the comic IRON MAN.

Downey will portray Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Using his intelligence and ingenuity, Stark instead builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. Upon his return to the U.S., he uncovers a plot with global implications and must don his armor and protect the world.

Various names have been previously rumored to play Tony Stark including Tom Cruise.

The movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced independently via Marvel Entertainment. Jon Favreau is directing.

You've got to be kidding me. I think I am in shock. I just finished watching "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" two weeks ago too. It's 1 am, maybe I am hallucinating. I'm going to bed. In the morning, I'll check again to see if this is real...

this could work if they have iron man going in and out of rehab!!!...he used to be a pretty good actor..but the damn drugs........what a shocker........

Robert Downey Jr., last time I checked, was an amazing actor, and he absolutely could pull this off. He is older, but Stark was a mature character even way back in his early days, ultimate ironman seems to be much younger however. Lets slap the goutee on him and see a trailer before we all start whining.
