This is really sad. Robert Jordan wrote for adults, something really rare in the fantasy genre. I know he was criticized for his detailed writing, but that's what drew me to his work. He wasn't in a hurry to reach the end of his series, I just wish the end hadn't been hurried for him. As for Terry Goodkind, I tried reading the first book of his series, but it was... just a fantasy novel. My hope is that Harriet will finish the book, or that they will pull in a quality writer. It doesn't have to be a fantasy author. The magic in WoT always had more of a sci-fi physics feel, and the books are full of historical and mythical references.

The series would have been finished if he hadn't written a couple of his books where nothing of consequence happens. Don't get me wrong, I love his books. But jeeze, like book 8 and 9, i think, nothing really happens. They're like 900 page recaps.

Here's what was posted on his blog on 9/9 "Epilog: Yes he is continuing to work through all of this medical calamity. MOL is going into the word processor and onto audio tapes almost daily. Not every day mind you, because the medical fight takes first priority. But, he told you he’d finish and he will. Fact is that it has been finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don’t ask, ain’t telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he’s ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That’s a promise"

Shocking. I held off reading the last one because I wanted to read it and the final book back to back. Despite how I felt about the filler in his books, the story was solid. At this point I have come to terms with the fact that I will have to endure countless hours of braid pulling and wardrobe descriptions, but the last book or 2 had some revolutionary developments to the story. My heart goes out to his family and I'm sure his wife ( and especially TOR) will do everything in their power to make sure that book comes out as he would have wanted it. He has A LOT of loose strings to tie up, but I have 1000s of pages invested in these characters. I will see Rand bring forth TarMon Gaidon!

I'm guessing that *if* the Saga That Doesn't End is indeed concluded it will be ny the choice of Jordan's estate. As for who it *should* be, Terry Goodkind, no. There are stylistic similarities (I remember thinking that Wizard's First Rule was Wheel of Time with S&M thrown in) but the two authors philosophies are just too different. George R.R. Martin comes to mind though.

on a statement at wotmania.com they mentioned it will probably be a small army of writers that finishes fleshing out his notes, but they made it sound like this group had already been pre-selected in some fashion by jordan

I agree with necroskippy. George R.R. Martin should finish the books. He, like Jordan, writes fantasy for ADULTS. But he is just so busy with his own books. I wonder if he would do this for what I know was a good friend of his. Such is life. RIP Robert, you were a friend to all the fans in more ways than you can imagine.

This is a very sad thing to hear. I remember when a friend handed me the first book and said you gotta read this. After the 8th book came out I made a joke to him that RJ would die before this story was done ... damn I hate morbid humor. I'm sure I'm like a whole lot of other readers in that I have a love hate relationship with these novels, I agree that the story could probably have finished a couple of books ago, but on the other hand it's a world that slips on like a glove and just feels right. RJ you will truly be missed, but thanks for what you left us ... I've got my fingers crossed that the legacy you left will live up to what you started. BTW keep TG the hell away from this series, I rank him right up there with Terry Brooks they are hacks who pillaged and plagerized much greater authors.

Brandon Sanderson is the guy who is going to finish the finish book. Brandon Sanderson was picked by RJ's wife. He apparently wrote some good books that are very similar to RJ's style of writing. Here is his official website and list of his books previously written. Elantris Mistborn: The Final Empire (Book 1 of the Mistborn trilogy) The Well of Ascension (Book 2 of of the Mistborn trilogy) Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians (Young Adult novel) http://www.brandonsanderson.com/l I am going to read all his books to pass the time and see how his writing is. I have faith in him as he was had picked by RJ's wife over much deliberation.
