Audiences across the world will soon have another Robopocalypse on their hands, says the Hollywood Reporter. DreamWorks Studios and Doubleday have pre-emptively acquired the film and publishing rights to Daniel H. Wilson's unpublished manuscript, which explores the fate of the human race after a robot uprising. The studio is fast-tracking development of the project and will likely see a release sometime in 2011, the same year that the publisher has slotted for the novel's publication.

While the theme of angry-robots has been used in movies such as the Terminator series, I, Robot and the two Transformers films, it should be noted that Wilson holds a Ph.D. in robotics, and has grounded his tales with a heavy degree of authenticity derived from real robot technology.

"Daniel H. Wilson's cautionary tale of man versus machine grabbed us from the very beginning," said Sourian. "Wilson's background in robotics and artificial intelligence grounds his story with a frightening level of realism."

Wilson added: "Writing this novel is an incredible thrill, after spending years studying and thinking about robotics. My hope is that the story we tell will make the robots of the future proud of us humans."

Wilson is also the author of the 2005 book "How to Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion," which scribes Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant have been developing as a screenplay for Paramount. Wilson's next book, "Bro-Jitsu: The Martial Art of Sibling Smackdown," is scheduled for release next year. Nickelodeon has optioned the film rights and hired Wilson to adapt it.

Thanks to Matador for the submission.

It's ok, you can never have enough robot films.

Just like apocalyptic, sword and sandals and any number of other genre films I don't tire from this subject matter. And since the new Terminator trilogy is only a shadow of what Cameron gave us maybe is time we moved on to a new franchise in the matter.

Btw, I wouldn't put Transformers in the same category

Also, I didn't hate Salvation, it's just that it doesn't measure up

Robots.... The Zombie of tomorrow!

Wise-  Your right it doesn't. I cut it a whole lot of slack because I want the story to continue so badly. Kind of like Phantom Menace to me.

This may hit the spot for the geeks and techies.....Transformers is more or less a cartoon, this sounds like it is a bit more story and science and sci-fi, shouild be interesting.....Lets all give it a whirl.....

Heck, cant be worse than the CRAP hitting the screens nowadays...

Looks like the author of this book  finished reading "The Zombie Survival Guide" and thought....Hmmmmm how bout the same book with...ROBOTS!!!!

I'm just jealous I didn't think of it. Well I'm writing my masterpiece, surviving the Frankenacalpse oh yeah the attack of the Frankenstiens

gauleyboy420 11/4/2009 10:19:26 AM

Unless Daniel H. Wilson is directing it his Manuscript and his P.H.D doesn't matter.  Whichever director takes it over usually changes it to their own vision.  That's anther reason why Cameron is so good at what he does, he writes his own screenplays.

I was just about to question how an unpublished manuscrpit with the same themes as the Matrix and 9 and I Robot and every other robot apocolypse movie ever made could get purchased before even being released... but seeing that the author has a PhD in robotics definitely gives me pause...  It's intriguing.  I love the hard sci-fi sort of stuff, and this definitely sounds like it could fall under that category.

I own Robot Uprising,

I own the Zombie Survival Guide,

But where, oh where, is my literature for preventing the Ape Revolution?
