With the original Robotech series being out of print at this point and only a few retailers still carrying the large box set edition that ADV Films put out back in 2005, fans wanting to see Robotech may have a bit of a hard time, which is unfortunate considering that it's hitting some anniversaries. The Folks at Robotech.com have noted however that a new option has come into play as the original TV series and the Shadow Chronicles follow-up is now available through Netflix's streaming service, which is provided across numerous devices as well as the good old world wide web itself:

"In addition to being available on YouTube and Hulu, the original Robotech series and Robotech: the Shadow Chronicles are now available on Netflix's streaming service! This means Netflix subscribers can watch Robotech and Shadow Chronicles instantly on a computer, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, iPod Touch, Netflix-enabled set-top boxes and HDTVs, and even outdoors on an iPhone or 3G-enabled iPad!"

Robotech Plot Summary: A massive alien battle cruiser crash lands on Earth in the midst of a bloody global war. With the possibility of a more perilous threat looming, the human race puts aside their differences and collectively undertakes the arduous task of rebuilding the spacecraft, redubbed the SDF-1, to defend the Earth should its extraterrestrial masters come to reclaim it. Eventually, the alien Zentraedi invade Earth to collect the SDF-1 and the technology it contains, forcing the inexperienced crew, including hotshot pilot Rick Hunter and his war hero mentor Roy Fokker, to launch the battle cruiser into war—a war that will cross generations, stretch across the farthest reaches of the universe and turn ordinary soldiers into extraordinary heroes.

Shadow Chronicles Plot: The legendary Admiral Hunter is missing as a deadly new adversary threatens the vulnerable survivors of the Robotech wars. Vince Grant and Scott Bernard must race against time to unravel a treacherous mystery that could spell the end of the human race!

I own all 3 "Acts" of Robotech (planes, tanks, and bikes) on DVD already, but I've never seen "Shadow Chronicles."  I'll have to check that out.  The first Robotech is indeed the greatest cartoon ever (with the exception of Minmay's annoying singing).

Shadow Chronic was just ok, did not capture the feel of the first three series however.  They needed to be more Earth bound or planet bound to be of interest to me.  I hear there is a Chinese ripoff out there Astro force or something I am lightly looking into.  Robotech I hate to say it needs to do prequel movies for filling in gaps, I wonder if it's still rights issues since they were all adapted.  Their .com site has loyal followings, it's stupid not to have new Robotech something every year.  Or maybe they are putting all their eggs in the basket for the live action movie....who knows.
