Sam Rockwell says he's Justin Hammer in 'Iron Man 2'. 'Dark Knight' returns...to IMAX. 'Wolverine' buzz, good and troublesome. This is your Comics2Film 9.1.16

Sam Rockwell confirms IRON MAN 2 role

Actor Sam Rockwell confirmed for MTV Splash Page that he is, in fact, set to play Justin Hammer in the 'Iron Man 2' movie.

Director Jon Favreau approached him for the lead in the original movie, which of course end up going to Robert Downey Jr. Favreau rang Rockwell up again, when development on the second movie began, and described the Justin Hammer character for him, absent a script.

"Yeah, he’s a rival [to Tony Stark]," Rockwell told MTV. "He takes over all the weapons stuff after Tony’s left. I don’t know if he takes over Stark Industries. I’m not really sure yet. He’s a money dude. That’s about all I can say."

DARK KNIGHT Returns...to IMAX

From a press release

Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing 'The Dark Knight' back for a return engagement in IMAX and theatres on January 23, 2009, giving audiences one more chance to see the film on the big screen. The film will re-open nationwide, it was announced by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “‘The Dark Knight’ is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen.”

One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, “The Dark Knight” has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, culminating with the film being named on more than 150 critics’ lists of the year’s top-ten films.

Schreiber enthuses about WOLVERINE while "extensive reshoots" are rumored debunked

Actor Liev Schreiber told MTV Splash Page that the teenage boy in him is what drove him to persue the role of Sabretooth in the upcoming 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' movie and would loved to continue revisitng the role.

"[Superhero movies are] as close to Shakespeare as you can get in the movie business," Schreiber said. "The size of characters, the size of the emotion, the fantasy element — all of that stuff is… bigger than life. Movies are so naturalistic, and I don’t know how to describe it, but the day you put on wires and they fling you around a studio into a giant green pillow, you’ll know how much fun it is to make comic book movies."

The next report makes us wonder if Fox shares Scrheiber's enthusiasm for the movie.

Citing unnamed sources Collider.com claims that Fox is conducting "extensive re-shoots"of the film up in Vancouver. They claim that this is not the customary pick-up shots that often happen after the main production closes down.

Late last summer reports emerged of some major clashes between director Gavin Hood and the studio. Rumor of the day was that Hood was nearly fired and producer Richard Donner had to spend time on the set. The official line is that he was smoothing things over, but some speculate that he may have been sitting in the director's chair part of that time.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox tells Mania.com the Vancouver filming is neither pick-up work, nor re-shooting, but rather part of the planned principal photography for the film. The Vancouver leg of the production was planned for in order to capture winter weather and work around the schedules of talent like Ryan Reynolds.

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

That's not good news for Wolverine.  Maybe they watched the trailer too and said WTF when Wolvie did that crouching tiger hidden dragon jump onto the helicopter.  LOL

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the trailer kicked ass.  I wasn't kinda "meh" about the movie until the trailer. Now, I'm jacked.  I'm not worried about the reshoots. If they were doing it because the movie sucked, they would be trying to hide it and running the whole bs that it's standard pick-ups.

Rockwell is excellent news for IM2. I'm not concerned that he's playing a young Hammer. That's fine with me. The primary thing is that he's a business rival for Tony.  Rockwell is a fantastic actor, and I'm sure he'll be great.

I like Sam Rockwell as an actor but I was suprised by his choice to play Hammer - I guess they are going the younger route since he is much older in teh comic.

WB is milking all they can out of the Dark Knight's tit

I am not too concerned about the re-shoots for wolvie

If Richard Donner has his two cents put into Wolverine, Then this a good thing.

I'm with you xeno, and you as well aegrant, and you too fft.  I'll politely disagree with you Hobbs.  I liked the trailer and I could see Wolvie being thrown from a vehicle through the air.  It's not like he has too worry about getting hurt.  What's the problem?

muchdrama1 1/16/2009 11:16:33 AM

Now that is great news.

I can only suspend my disbelief for so long....I don't mean to be hating on Wolvie I hope it rocks but that was a stupid scene.  Half the trailer was cool, had an epic feel to it then WTF.

I can buy an explosion throws someone through the air but that was a good distance not to mention out of all the directions he can be thrown it just happens to be AT the helicopter then to miss the blades and land on the top of it...okay...just too much for me.  That's something out of an Indiana Jones movie.

I think Sa Rockwell is a great choice to play a corporate player.  It's a timely cocept to have  young upstart trying to muscle out the old guard.  It's likely happening all over America to the baby boomer generation.

I dont recall the helicopter scene specifially, but the trailer I saw in the theater looked pretty damned awesome.  Loved the card scene with Gambit, and the War footage.  Looks pretty promising to me.

I read a Hugh Jackman interview awhile ago where he mentioned the possiblity that if this ovie's successful they'll make a sequel set in Japan, possibly based on the classic orginal Wolverine mini.

Jackman seemed very  enthusiastic about doing a Wolverine in Japan storyline.
