This is Camerons first jump into a major motion picture in some time, and could be something quite special... it definately sounds original.

Michelle Rodriguez???!!! What a poor and uninspired casting choice. This is the first mistake for this movie!!! Can't these people in Hollywood think of another latina to cast in their movies other than the five or six they keep casting in everything??? I think of the actress that starred in the tv show Queen Of Swords, Tessie Santiago...man, she could have been a huge star if somebody have given her a real opportunity to make it--and there are others many others.

Michelle Rodriguez had her chance...and she has proven herself to be a one dimensional no talent drunk!!!

I've wondered why has it taken so long for Cameron to get another movie made after Titanic. The highest grossing movie of '97, eleven Oscars, and not another movie made since then. Until now, that is. But I like Michelle Rodriguez. I like some of the stuff she's done. If any fellow Maniac wants to make fun of me because of that, you're more than welcome to.

I wouldn't make fun of you for having an honest opinion...it's just that Michelle Rodriguez projects the same performance...role after role, no change...no nothing. There is no real actor there, she's playing herself--Again, role after role. The same sneering, yelling, over the top tuff chick...and to tell you the truth, I'm bored with it already. You could grab any kid off the New York streets and have them yell into the camera...and you'd get the same effect--so, so much for acting???

I mean, talk about a bore alright!!! In fact, I was bored after the first few repeats of her samey-same performances that I saw on screen years ago...now, it's just plain annoying and embarrassing!!!

Rodriguez wasn't cast in Avatar because of talent...no, she was cast because she fits a stereo type, that's all...nothing else!!! I bet she didn't even have to audition...nope, the producers just said "Hey, we need a tuff and hot tempered latina" for a role: Instantly, the first thing they thought of was this pathetic type cast "stereo type" in the flesh...Michelle Rodriguez.

Go to YouTube and look up Queen Of Swords...the girl who plays the lead has terrific charisma, intelligence, sexyness, and star quality, while bringing a real dose of feminity to a physical role.

Or how about the latina who plays Terressa on the soap opera Passions: She's sexy, she can act, she can play fully dimensional characters, and she's a scene stealer!!!

However, Rodriguez...just offers us yet another Ground Hog Day "penis envy" motivated performance here...and it'll be no different with this role, as with her last 12 horribly derivative "penis envy" inspired roles!!! What a major mistake in casting her--it has really challenged my high hopes for this film...hopes that are starting to dry up!!!

I actually like Michelle Rodriguez.

I can see why most people don't like her now because of her Lost stint where I think she was one of the greatest character ever in a TV series. She was portrayed as someone whom so many people either liked her or disliked her but in the end, people felt something about her character.

That is usually a good sign of a good actor. When people can feel something about what they are portraying on screen because of how good the acting is done.

Metalwater, I kind of feel surprised when you say that she acts the same way all the time, that she's doing the same performence on screen all the time.

So what?

How many actors are the exact same thing and they still do a good job (Will Smith, John Travolta, Ben crappy crap crap Stiller, and so on).

Most actors are known for something special they bring to the screen. Many always bring back something that makes them who they are like: Attitude, special facial expression, verbal expression, physical reactions, etc... .

The fact that when we think though girl on screen, we can always think of MR just like when we think of action, we can always think of Awnold or Stallone or to a lesser extend Van Damme. It doesn't mean she will play extactly the same thing over and over, she is just showing on screen her presence as a though girl which usually in the Army, it's though girls that like these type of things, not your average girl next door.

anyway, this movie looks interesting for me.

Michelle Rodriguez/ We're in freakin' Southern California...how hard would it be to find a good latina actress who isnt a whining drunkard? It seems as if laziness as spread through tinsel town.

themacallan007--

Whining drunkard? She got a DUI in Hawaii. She chose jail time over community service. I see the drunk. I don't really see the "whine."

You all know that Cameron likes the "tough" latina chick... Ya'll remember Vasquez from Aliens? Another latina Space Marine... I can't think of here name right now, but he also used her in T2 and Titanic.

Maybe James Cameron thinks that only tough latin ladies make good Space Marines...

Michelle Rodriguez is a fine choice - it's James frickin Cameron! His movies are never about the "actors" anyway... it's all about the story and he get's the absolute best out of whichever actors he works with.

irascible • Aug 03, 2007, 12:39pm •
metalwater: You are so wrong. I think Rodriguez will play outside her normal and play a tough chick that punches out some dude. OH WAIT - THAT'S WHAT SHE DOES IN EVERY ROLE.

iceman71 • Aug 03, 2007, 03:33pm •
momitchell, Jenette Goldstein is the name you're looking for...

Rodriguez is butt-ugly and she's just a one trick pony: act tough is all she does, IMO.

But! this is James Cameron's thing, so... who knows?
