Comics2Filmrecently heard from screenwriter John Rogers who gave us an update on his workadapting Greg Rucka's Queen & Country for the big-screen.
"The scriptvery closely follows the arc of the first two stories in the book," Rogerssaid. "Greg's great work in counterpointing Tara's emotional collapse vs.her dangerous job set a high bar for the script adaptation."
Rogers likenedthe process to a previous adaptation he worked on. "Much like I constantlyfound the solutions to my writing problems while adapting Mage bygoing back to Matt's Wagner's original work (and occasionally calling him in apanic), the Queen & Country books make my life as an adaptermuch easier."
As with any adaptation, fans can anticipate some changes. "There are a few sequences that are'opened up' visually, making them more filmic. Tara does slightly less layingaround hung-over in her t-shirt and slightly more running around doing spythings," Rogers said. "And fans of BBC's The Sandbaggerswill probably spot a few references in there as well."
Rogers stillaims to keep the realistic flavor of the comic book. "The script also triesto stay in the 'real world', like the source material, as much as possible. Nojet cars. Not that I don't like jet cars. Although I'd prefer a laserwatch."
Queen& Country is currently in development with Tall Trees Productionsand set up at 20th Century Fox.
