Rogue Takes on Egan's THE KEEP

By: Jarrod Sarafin

Universal's Rogue Pictures, a genre branch who has a decent record of keeping budgets low and profits high, has grabbed the rights to Ehren Kruger's big screen treatment of The Keep, based on Jennifer Egan's novel. Prague-based producer Matthew Stillman will be overseeing production and given his history of overseeing production of Casino Royale, The Illusionist and Van Helsing inside the Czech Republic studios, it's a good bet that there's where this movie will be filmed. Ehren Kruger was also a co-writer for the screenplay of the upcoming sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Plot Concept:
The thriller revolves around a mysterious prisoner who seduces a local woman with his tale of a supernatural secret that can transform her life.

There is a movie called The Keep. How can they use the same title?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085780/

I think they got rid of the rule of copyrighting movie names years ago. Otherwise alot of Dracula movies wouldn't be made.

But I'm also wondering how the Wacoal Keep it Classic Strapless Bra got associated with this page. Not that I mind.

Yeah, I remember The Keep vaguely. Like late 70's or early 80's.

There have been plenty of films with the same exact titles. Really have no idea how the rights to a title work or how and when they're enforced. I think it depends wether or not the original folks with the title want to enforce their copyrights.

Maybe when it refers to something generic or vague ala Keep rights don't apply but something specific like Superman, then it's a different story.

Lot's o' films w/ same titles. I think as long as they don't purport to be related, and can demonstrate a legitimate non-related usage of the name, they're ok. Kind of like Spike TV and Spike f/ BtVS having similar names to Spike Lee. Hmm... I think the estate of Bruce Lee should sue Spike Lee for usage of the name Lee. Maybe that would shut his face.

Mmm... bosoms....

There making the wrong book, F Paul Wilson's The Keep would be much better. Also It's a possible franchise.
