IRON MAN - May 02, 2008 - 06:40am
A solid A. I agree with Abbie that Jeff Bridges' character needed a bit more time to be hammered out - but damn - I'll forgive on tat and the 3-4 second "obvious" CG effects during the Ironmonger/Iron Man battle - becuase this was the best superhero movie ever because you got to see the "hero" more than the "super" - RDJr. was downright amazing and if you're going to rate the movie based upon the hero - he will win hands down. Watching his chemistry with Gwyneth made me feel uncomfortable - like I was a voyeur who shouldn't be there. By far and away the best comic movie to date and a solid movie all around. But not a "B." Also - Rotten Tomatoes has this ranked as the best rated film of the year and the best rated CB movie ever...

Don't Believe the Hype - Mar 05, 2008 - 11:16am
Couldn't agree more on the whole crossover thing - annoying and I've never been a fan. That's one of the reason I've switched over to smaller publishers - great stories, great art. I think the books being put out by Dynamite right now, Project Superpowers, Zorro and the LR are some of the best I've seen in a long time. Now I hear that a new publisher called Radical is playing around with the Arthur and Hercules legends - all pretty cool by me - and easy to keep up with (and by easy I mean cheaper)

Three More Confirmed for WOLVERINE - Feb 20, 2008 - 08:20am
Exit Maverick & Mastadon - enter Deadpool and Gambit???

Gambit is Cast, Dead Pool Update for WOLVERINE - Feb 19, 2008 - 06:49am
Whisekymovie - Holloway was offered it at one point and turned it down since he thought the character was so Sawyer like. I like Kitsch as Gambit - he'll have to be a tad less brooding though. Reynolds as deadpool - hope its more than a cameo!!

WB Confirms JUSTICE LEAGUE On Hold - Jan 17, 2008 - 06:24am
The script sounded pretty cool, I like Miller, But the cast (with the exception of Gale and Common) was pure shite! RIP

Beginning of SWEENEY TODD Online - Dec 13, 2007 - 02:57pm
Ahhhh...this looks cute, think I'll take my kids to it! They love the color red! It'll be good seeing Burton doing a hyper-realistic "horror." I think Burton's a great storytteller - I would love, just once, for him to drop some of the cheese/over the top-ness and get really gritty to see how it would play out.

New K.I.T.T Car Polished & Ready to Roll - Dec 13, 2007 - 02:48pm
Don't mind the Mustang - looks tough. But I agree with Oriongreenguy, the voice may not fit the body. Hopefully KITT won't be a cynical smartass but, with Arnett, I'm gonna guess that's the angle they'll take. And wasn't there a poster out a few months back showing something other than a Mustang as KITT??

Beginning of French Sci-Fi Horror DANTE 01 - Dec 13, 2007 - 02:37pm
Looks very Kubrick-ian. Its been a long time (Alien/Aliens) since the horror/sci-fi genre has been done right. But I like the psychological angle described. Curious to see this...

Seth Rogen Talks about GREEN HORNET - Nov 29, 2007 - 10:09am
The GH is ripe for a makeover and it has a unique take on being a hero - the ultimate secret identity - a rich guy, dressed up as a "bad guy" in order to be a hero. As for GH history and stories, grab Sherman and set the wayback machine to the radio and movie serial days to get more of the flavor not captured by the TV show. I am not a huge fan of Rogen as an actor but they guy has decent writing chops. Curious how many f-bombs Brit will drop in the first 10 mins of the film...I hope this doesn't turn into a "Rush Hour" type flick... Totally agree with the Steven Chow casting - that would be perfect.

New JOKER Pic Online Wednesday - Nov 27, 2007 - 09:35am
Pics out early - check out SHH and their look at the Empire cover- great shot! Once again, Nolan looks to have nailed it with TDK...

NBC Orders Full Season for CHUCK & LIFE - Nov 27, 2007 - 09:18am
I love Chuck. Great show and it has everything. I watch Life and I think it has such potential but the writing is horrible! Crewes could be so much more philisophically whacky and he just isn't - its very one dimensional too me, great concept that isn;t executed very well. As for Journeyman, I think that is one of the best shows on TV right now. Its relatable on SO many levels - how do you have a life when you aren't in control of you "job." Its one thing to miss your kids ball game because of a meeting, but when your zapped from your timeline when you and your kid are at a street fair - that's something altogether different. Tack on to that stress the wife wondering if her husband can be depeneded on and trying to be understanding when the jumps are serious pains in the asses for her and the family. Then, theres the whole sci-fi side of why is he jumping, and why with his ex - all pretty cool in my book. A complicated, genre-light show with many levels. The bad news, reports are that its not being picked up for next season due to the strike and low numbers. Last night's episode may be the last one...

The New JUSTICE LEAGUE Cast? - Nov 19, 2007 - 11:50am
Wow! I was thinking things were looking pretty good for this movie and I was excited about some of the script leaks. But, looking at this cast (with the exception of Gale) - gulp. Kinda depressing. I hope this ain't it. If so, I have to think that WB and the producers aren't giving Miller much wiggle room. Bad Warners, bad!

WONDER WOMAN On Hold - Oct 30, 2007 - 11:35am
This is bullshit. Of all the DC properties, behind Bats and Supes, WW is the one that deserves the multi-millon dollar film treatment. Whedon, Rob Thomas, JJ Abrahms all could have done it justice... a strong and attractive female action lead could be box office gold and provide huge marketing profits in the princess/bratz-laden toy market for girls and young women. Very myopic DC/Warners - very myopic.

Teresa Palmer Lands WONDER WOMAN Role? - Oct 26, 2007 - 09:11am
I'll go against grain and retract my earlier comment about "heorin-chic" WW, looking at these pics, especially the bottom one, and imagining her with dark hair - I can see it. As for her height - that is only an issue if everyone else is tall. As I've also commented on, why does she need to be thick? Because she's strong? She has "superhuman" abilities. That means she doesn't have to have squat for physique. Because she's an "Amazon"? There's more to that name then the modern parlance of the word allows. It doesn't mean the woman has to be a "towering brute" - she is simply a women warrior. Don't need her to be looking all 300 to be a "warrior," hell, Dr. Ruth was once a "warrior" in the Israeli army. She's got a good luck, can act, and may do well wiith a good script and supporting actors. I'm still on board. besides - if this gets made - none of you have the will power to avoid seeing JLA on the big screen - shitty or not.

DiCaprio, Scorsese Reunite For ISLAND - Oct 23, 2007 - 10:33am
Alright - I'll take some heat for this...I just don't think Scorsese is all that great. And this movie, although well written and acted, I found really poorly directed. Leo did good, Wahlberg was phenomenal, but I think MS didn't direct Jack for shit and, as a result, I found him to be a distraction to an otherwise good movie. I respect what he's done in the past, but I don't think The Departed was that well put together.

Cohen Gives an Update for MUMMY 3 - Oct 22, 2007 - 11:12am
Agreed to all above. The Mummy is an all-time great "matinee movie," "return" went a littl;e overboard for me, but this seems to be bringing the fun back. It'll be interesting seeing this next to Indy to see which one actually captures the right feeling...

Flyboy Checks in on Set of PUSH - Oct 19, 2007 - 01:55pm
Golly - special powers. Great! Problem is that the granting of those powers seems to come at the cost of common sense. Three Anglos hiding in a predominantly Asian city. C'mon, they wanna be found...

Schreiber Set to Strike WOLVERINE - Oct 18, 2007 - 01:58pm
Actually Nimerod, rgtchiger is right. In Spider man and his Amazing Friends, season 2 episode 3 "A firestar is born" Wolverine has a definite Aussie accent when he skewers fruit and says "Want a piece of fruit?" (I used that line for years to cue in my Aussie accent). But they need to keep him a Canadian. As far as extras - I wanna see Peter Dinklage as Puck! How cool would that be! Jackman, Shcreiber and Dinklage - stellar cast. Even Metalwater may be drawn to it...

Chris Pine is Kirk in STAR TREK - Oct 16, 2007 - 08:19am
Metalwater - I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Star Trek is a brand that simply needs to be hyped the right way to get the buzz generating around it. It doesn't need a "big draw" actor for an anchor. Look at this board, at 6:10 am PST there are already 13 posts. People are curious about this film and Star Trek is very much a part of the collective conciousness. The cast will be filled in with actors that people recognize when they seem them - Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quintos willl give the flm that not-straight-to-DVD credibility it needs. Then, with an international and multi ethnic cast, its up to the marketing folks to get these guys on Jay, David, Conan, Today, GMA...not that hard when you're working with an ensemble cast. The media blitz on Star Trek will be huge. I would expect some rather spectacular events at all Paramount parks, in Vegas, and on TV. The movie will make mad money. As far as quality, I've said it before, JJ is pretty damn good at short term projects. The first season of LOST and ALIAS are examples of that. The problem is he loses steam. But in movies, such as MI3, he has 120-150 minutes to tie everything up, and he does that rather tightly with a well-rounded story. I have no doubt this will be a Trek worth watching.

Possible Cast Choices For JUSTICE LEAGUE - Oct 15, 2007 - 10:50am
What’s all the griping about?!?!? I think these are all inspired choices. Someone needs to rattle the DC universe’s limp lineup of “heroes.” Here's the lineup: Michael Angarano: Superman - Since everyone always calls him a boy scout - let's cast in that direction - well done. Granted, he's closer to a Webelo, but he's from friggin another planet... Adam Brody: Batman: a brooding EMO style 20 year old-looking kid with billions of dollars and all the training required to fight side by side with a dude from another planet and an Amazon goddess. Its amazing what a 20 year old can do nowadays. And, amidst all that physical training, he's also amassed HUGE amounts of detective and engineering skills, that’s why in the movie they'll call him Bruce "Doogie" Wayne. Teresa Palmer - Wonder Woman - heroin chic Wonder Woman...its the 21st Century, Finally! We need a new definition of both curvy and strong... Belluci is way too fat to play such a role...keep 'em slender and curve free. Well played WB! Mary Elizabeth Winstead:- Martin Manhunter...oh yeah!...he/she's a shape shifter..uh-huh..throw a lil' tranny in with the GL/John Stewart diversity casting...mix it up WB, way to expand our minds!! Max Thieriot: Flash - because we need a "new kid" to introduce to the teen...I mean team. Joseph Cross: Aqua...uh...man. Although he just learned to swim, young Arthur Curry just became King of Atlantis, now watch the boy king take his rightful place among the other popular kids of super hero-dom. Common: GL - aka "Mclovin" because someone will need to but the team beer at the end of a hard day Ok, end sarcasm. I hope these are just over zealous agents putting their people on the block. Because these would REALLY suck. Of this list the only ones I would buy are Porter (he could do Batman - although young) and Palicki (for WW with hair dye) - not saying they should, but wouldn't be hella-awful like the rest of the above. But I like George and I’m a huge fan of his work (I love myself Mad Max) so I’ll give Miller some rope…but please be careful George!

New ALIENS VS. PREDATOR:REQUIEM Trailer - Oct 03, 2007 - 12:31pm
Alien vs. Predator vs. South Park. Screw you guys, I'm going home...

Abrams Has a New KIRK? - Sep 28, 2007 - 11:07am
He sounds like Kutcher because thats what the role called for - its called acting. Take a look at IMDB, the guys done a bunch of different things. I trust JJ. Who would have thought the shrinking violet from Pearl Harbor could be an ass kicking spy? JJ. Who gave MI:3 something more than just explosions and a bass line? JJ. JJ's good right out of the barrel - he loses it only when things drag on (LOST, ALIAS)...Vogel has the look and appears to have the presence to play a starship captain...

Possible First Look at the JLA Plot - Sep 26, 2007 - 09:05am
Hmmmm. If these niblets pan out and go the way that they are aiming, this might be a pretty good way to introduce the characters. I like that they are going with just the 6, keeps it focused. Really like the take on Wonder Woman - plays well and I think will be accepted. In line with what CHUD is guessing, a simplified OMAC storyline would really show the "team" in action, the Bats' tech gets folks in trouble, one of the leagues most powerful heroes goes bad, and its "humanitarian" gets to break someones neck. That would be a tight package and a straight forward script. Also, I'm hearing that in line with all the hype Heroes is getting, the WB feels as though audiences don't need to be hand held through origin stories. If thats what they are thinking, I will bet that the intro to the Justice League will be through the eyes of its newest member - Flash (a la Wolverine in X-Men). Also, if Flash is the youngest member - I'm willing to put money on someone other than Ryan Reynolds as Flash. They'll have to go more teen. And, as far as WW - I agree with wessmith, Jessica B would be a bad fit if going with the statesman- Belluci.

The Rock as CAPTAIN MARVEL or BLACK ADAM? - Sep 24, 2007 - 12:22pm
Adam. I agree with Necroskippy - he has the right look to be Teth Adam or even the transformed Theo Adam. Would be especially cool if they go with the modern Black Adam so that there's a chance for BAs redemption

Aussie Victoria Hill Tries For JLA's WONDER WOMAN - Sep 24, 2007 - 11:41am
I like her look, there are some better pictures out there of her. As far as her being "too skinny" some work on her delts and arms (a la Linda Hamilton) and she'd be fine. I don't know if JLA needs to find a WW similar to Alex Ross' Corrina Everson like-take. She has superhuman, god-like powers - that doesn't mean she has to be bulky and ripped - she's super-powered, not human-powered. Whereas Batman needs to be ripped, Superman, Wonder Woman - not so much.

Kevin McKidd Talks THOR Rumors - Sep 07, 2007 - 12:17pm
Oh crap! They are going to remake The Mask 2 - Loki comes to a young kid, tells him he is a God...hilarity and hijinx ensue. I'm gonna give Marvel some early credit on this one and fall into wait-n-see mode. Ironman and Incerdible Hulk look like they're gonna be awesome - Thor and Antman (uh...still curious to find out more about that one) will be next - I'll trust in Ari for now...

HD IRON MAN Comic Con Trailer Sept 10 - Sep 06, 2007 - 09:59am
The placement on this one escapes me. Before the Hills? I understand the need to pick up a wider demographic, and maybe I am unclear on who exactly is watching the hills - but very odd. Daily Show is wise but why the reruns on The N and Spike...do they think it will draw viewers. They should have waited for the the new season and used it as a draw viewers to a tight time slot...but thats what DVRs are for...

Uhura Cast & Plot for Abrams' STAR TREK? - Aug 31, 2007 - 11:37am
I don't think JJ has creative endurance but I think his first couple laps out of the gate are pretty good. Alias was good, then went down hill after season 2 (maybe 3) and I think Lost is poised to jump the shark this season. But his initial volleys are usually good - so I think this has a real shot if Moriarity's plot is valid. Why not reboot it that way with a reason to reboot. I remember reading a spec a few months back tat suggested just starting over - recasting everyone and beginning like OTS never happened. This is better...

Tyler Mane Looking For THOR - Aug 30, 2007 - 05:10pm
I think Mane would be a great Thor, especially if they do it in the style of a Conan or in relations to the Sagas, But I can't see him as Donald Blake. So if they did the Marvel treatment, and they avoided the Bixby/Ferigno Hulk-like transformation, I think they would have to go with someone that looks realistic as a Doctor. The thought of a 6'8" 275 lbs doctor would seems a bit comical and more in line with SCRUBS. Get McKidd all Gerald-Butler-fied and he's be great. But, then, the question is would it be based on Marvel's Thor? Since we are talking about someone (a Norse God) who's in the public domain, I would think they have to do the Marvel story (i.e. with Donald Blake) They would have a helluva time copyrighting a Thor movie based on the Sagas.

Gough Gives Season 7 Details of SMALLVILLE - Aug 30, 2007 - 04:54pm
Agree with Hanso - I was putting money on GL, or at least a young hot shot pilot named Hal Jordan, to make an appearance. I kind of like the idea of a GL being sent to help Clark collect phantoms. I think Ray Palmer's a better, i.e. more realistic, bet. But, if I remember the fan-news, wasn't there a newspaper headline in an episdoe entitled 'Themyscira Ambassador has talks with UN'? With the addition of Kara, WW could be a good add if the most powerful Amazon is curious about who this new, powerful woman is...could be cool.

WOLVERINE Shooting in Australia - Aug 29, 2007 - 12:45pm
Wessmith - totally agree - I really hope the writers can pull the Miller/Claremont story together as an action-tragedy. I think Jackman would enjoy playing Wolverine in that kind of storyline...

PUNISHER 2 Gets A Name Change - Aug 29, 2007 - 10:04am
I'll be curious to see how this goes. I like the fact that a female martial artist turned director is helming the project. I'm seeing that more and more "pure" action movies are coming down the pike - War, Shoot 'em Up, and the like...it will be curious to see what Lexi can do with this genre. Holligans was a pretty insightful flick.

What did Singer Pitch For SUPERMAN Sequel? - Aug 28, 2007 - 05:04pm
I loved SR. Source material be damned, who needs it. Its not like the movie was for the fans of the comic books or anything. I like the pitch. I would suggest Nathan Fillion as Brainiac...or as Darkseid...or Lois.

Digital Distractions - Aug 27, 2007 - 01:08pm
I agree about Flash Gordon. What a disappointment! I actually find myself trying too hard to watch it only to be let down. They totally missed the ball on what made/continues to make Flash such a great character - a sense of being off in space, by himself (ok, with Arden and Zarkoff), trying to save his planet from pending doom. Sci Fi, instead, seems to think the names are cool so just decided to scrap the 60+ years of source material...I pulled it form my DVR recording schedule last week. What a shame, it had potential. Guess I'll have to wait for TORCHWOOD to fill the gap.

Warner Bros Has SUPERMAN Cast in JLA Movie? - Aug 27, 2007 - 12:57pm
I still have huge doubts about this movie but appreciate that they are leaving the other franchises free to do what they need to do. As far as the casting news, Welling could pull it off, I like the idea of Josh Holloway from Lost as Aquaman – has the edge that could pull it off if he can lose the GA accent. The two of them are also rising properties that could draw audiences. GL will likely have to be an Unkown (and will likely by John Stewart). Morena Baccarin would be ideal for WW (and yes dollars to donuts she, or whoever they cast, will be front row center of showing off the Wonder-cleavage), Reynolds for Flash (probably the best casting - athletic and witty). I also like the idea of a motion capture/fx version of the MM using Lumbly’s voice. That would be a nice effect and relatively cheap. Batman’s the tough one – if the above cast was thrown together they’ll need to cast an anchor since this will be a tent-pole but I don't know if Fillion - who I like - or Boreanz, who'd be great, would fit that bill. But whoever does it will likely forever be known as the “other” Batman in light of Bale's performance. Keeping the talent costs down would allow Warner’s to make a decent, action packed movie. But I still think it ruins the chances of individual films (Wonder Woman, GL or Flash) as having any chance. I’ll be curious to see how/if the Magneto and Wolverine films are successful or generally accepted. P.S: It's refreshing to note that Gauley-young’un has learned to refrain from a.) colorful explicatives and b.) USING CAPS LOCK FOR EMPHASIS IN EVERY PARAGRAPH.

Update on Warner Bros' JLA Movie - Aug 20, 2007 - 04:45pm
Whoa! Love the fire “Gauleyboy” is it? But easy there lil’ fella...at my age most people are kids, and as sign of that maturity I will refrain from commenting on your placement of MLK and Hendricks as icons right up there with Iceman and Angel. But, oh, the things I could say! As far as LA street cred, I’ve been in film promotion, advertising and sales since ‘93. And, as a result, I’ve picked up a few things when it comes to promoting and selling large budget movies to the global market. And after dealing with delays, re-shoots, and re-packaging a film you get annoyed with some of the trash that’s being thrown into the market - and a guy just has to have his say in case others - like myself - are reading. Now, if you’d like to drop anymore f-bombs or comment on how your fan-penis is bigger than mine, feel free. But, all I’m saying is that a JL movie that tries to incorporate Nolan’s established gritty realism (BB/TDK) with characters like The Flash and GL, will likely not be able to pull it off. And the result will be the tanking of some great character properties. WB isn’t thinking about that - TRUST ME - they see Sony and Fox banking mad cash and know that Marvel is poised to do the same and they are trying to get a piece of that pie. ‘Nuff said.

SDCC IRON MAN Footage Online Soon - Aug 20, 2007 - 02:18pm
The footage I saw was awesome. Jon is really seducing the fanboys. That's a good thing because even if he lets us down (which I don't think he will) he still treated us right. Favreau is an actor's director who can also tell a great story. And Downey, what can I say he is one of the few real actors out there. With him and Norton out of the running for the possible Dr. Strange movie - I suggest one name...Depp.

Update on Warner Bros' JLA Movie - Aug 20, 2007 - 02:08pm
Gauleykid - I’m well aware that Batman’s bat-brains and gadgets have pulled the JLA’s collective ass out of the fire again and again in COMIC BOOKS. What I am saying, and if you watch, write, or produce movies you would understand, that a character based in/on reality loses its foundation - and therefore its credibility - when standing next to a guy that shoots heat rays out of his eyes or can make a giant green mallet from a ring. From a production standpoint, Bats would get lost in the FX and, seriously, it would take one helluva writer to come up with a plot - plausible to the general public - that would explain how Batman can do things that a Martian, an Amazon, a Kryptonian, and a guy with a ring from Oa, can’t. It isn’t realistic for WB, Bale, or Nolan to blow existing-and profitable - contracts so fanboys can see Batman brood next to Superman, at least not yet. And as a side note - The X-Men as American icons? Seriously? You want to tell me that Cyclops (1963), Wolverine (1974) and Storm (1975) are as well known or as part of the American fabric as Superman (1938), Batman (1939), Wonder Woman (1941) Aquaman (1941) even the Justice League (1960)...on TV since the late 1960s to present - in toon and live-action? Seriously, you gonna stick with that belief? I’ll grant you that X-Men (1963) did pop up twice on Spiderman and his Amazing Friends and had 3-5 seasons of a semi-successful run on Fox before they were made into a movie. Wow! Icon status, achieved... I’ll never forget my X-Men pillow cases back in the mid to early 70s and my X-Men, metal lunch box...oh wait...Dude, put down the funny books and examine social culture outside the comic book store! Also, don’t let MTV fool you, “icon” has a real definition - “An important and enduring symbol” or “One who is the object of great attention and devotion; an idol”

Update on Warner Bros' JLA Movie - Aug 20, 2007 - 01:07pm
First - the movie is a BAD idea. This ain't the X-Men, this is a collection of classic characters that anyone/everyone knows about/has seen/heard of - they a part of the American lexicon. We’re talking about Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern. Flash and Superman, here. They deserve the Marvel Studios treatment and patience being taken for Ironman, Thor, Hulk, Captain America and, eventually, Avengers. See what happens when the creators own the movie rights? The characters aren’t just a money pinata up for the whacking. Slow it on down WB. Second - who the hell am I, there’s money to be made. So WB will make a movie, it’ll reach for too much, make money worldwide, and deemed a failure by fanboys and the critics. The take will be too low to risk the individuals movie being pondered and the continuity will be all FUBAR for GL, WW or Flash. No individual movies will be launched - which would be a shame. Third - no way in hell will/should Bale take part. Leave Batman out, mention him but do not show him. I’m a big fan of the Bats - but we’ talking superheroes here, not costumed vigilantes - so go with the superpowered/alien bashing folks. Having Bale jump from taking down psychos and ninjas to running alongside a shape shifting martian, a dude with a cosmic power ring, an amazon with bullet resistant bracelets and truth-telling lasso, and the Man of Steel, removes the character from the reality Nolan created. If that’s what you want - go rent Dare Devil and watch the BS playground scene. Fourth - If its going forward, Martian Manhunter has to be in it and serve as the lynchpin bringing the super heroes together. That’s the only way they could tie origin, powers and the like up in a neat little bow and get to the action as quickly as possible.
