Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have grabbed the rights to J. Michael Straczynski's (Babylon 5) thriller THE CHANGELING. Ron Howard is thinking about directing the film as his next project.

The story of the film is based on actual events about a mother who prays for the return of her kidnapped son. When her prayers are answered and her son returns, she begins to suspect that the boy who comes back is not her child.

Howard has still not signed on to helm the sequel to THE DA VINCI CODE.

I don't blame him for the sequel after the critics tore him apart, but though I've never seen Code, I have never seen a bad Howard film.

I thought Code was well done, but would rather see Howard work on original material. If he signs on to direct Angels & Demons, he'll have to just make the book again, which might not appeal to him...although I'm sure the paycheck would be nice. Since DaVinci has topped $200 here in the U.S. alone, I'm sure he'd get a check with a lot of zeros to direct A&D. I was worried that this was a remake of one of my favorite horror movies, The Changeling (starring George C. Scott...a great film!).

If I'm not mistaken, that would be the first theatrical feature written by JMS, so I'd be interested in seeing it just for that aspect.

almostunbiased, have you seen Howard's version of the Grinch?

Da Vinci sits at over 700m worldwide.

Karl, do you have any numbers for the cost of DaVinci (including advertising costs?). By the way, I think you do a great job on the site and I look forward to visiting every day and exchanging emails with everyone; it's a lot of fun.

Ditto Karl, It's nice to have someone else join and exchange meaningful information.

I found out that the Budget $125 Million matches the advertising cost so total cost is at least $250 Million for Da Vinci Code.

I was hoping this was based on Roger Zelazny's novel. Still, it sound like it could be cool. Straczynski still has some currency with me after B5.

This sounds like the 2nd story in Trilogy of Terror, II. I can't believe I just said that. But it's true. Actually, the only reason I even saw ToT II was that I had recorded what was supposed to be the first one (gotta love the Zuni Fetish Doll), but the cable company had the wrong info listed. Anyway, in that story, the mother casts a spell to bring the accidentally drowned kid back from the dead. But then it turns out the kid committed suicide to get away from the mom and the returned kid is a demon the kid sent in his place to kill the mom. I need to get a life...

Hasn't "Code" made $750 million worldwide? That's a bit of a profit. I'd like to see Bettany as the Joker.

And you can scratch that last sentence about Paul Bettany. Apparently I'm posting on two subjects in one forum. Hee. Shoot me.
