We already passed along the news last month that Robert Rodriguez's girlfriend and Grindhouse star, Rose McGowan, was doing test FX footage for the remake of the cult classic heroine (originally played by Jane Fonda). It seems that over the course of the last month since that was revealed, the director has officially cast Rose for BARBARELLA according to publishers like Elle Magazine. Robert Sanchez over at IESB  tried for a confirmation from Rose's publicist but he's got no call backs just yet.

Readers, do you see Rose as the next "Barbarella"? If not, who would you like in the role instead of Rose Mcgowan? Let's hear your thoughts...

I honestly have no problems with her in the role.

There will always be actors that we think will be better of the part or worse. But I think she will do just fine.

No, I do not see her as Barbarella and she does not add any value to ticket sales.

Of course, the obvious choices are Angelina Jolie or Charlize Theron, but I'm sure they are hard to get.

While she's a pretty girl, I doubt she could pull off the raw sexual energy that jane Fonda had. Mcgowan doesn't "do it" for me.

This has Barbarbomb written all over it!!!

As for my pick for Barbarella...at this point anybody but Rose "I'm sleeping with the director...aka house wrecker" McGowan!!!

As I wrote in a prior posting, you need a girl to play this role who is pure sexuality...but who carries an innocence. Someone who is inadvertantly sexual...like a girl's school type of young woman, with the body of a stripper. She has to be a sexual dupe for the over sexed villain(s)--a hot bomb shell who doesn't understand sex...or sexual desires of men, who constantly finds herself being manipulated into compromising sexual positions by the villain...Duran Duran...and other men she meets along the course of her adventures. Think...Dorthy in a Hard "R" version of The Wizard Of Oz...where the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Wizard, the Wicked Witch Of The West, and the Good Witch are all trying to figure out ways to manipulate Dorthy in order to get her into bed.

In other words, this film needs to be Fellini-esque, like the original!!!

Well, that's Barbarella for you...and you need an innocent type to play her...as no one is going to buy the trampy house wrecker Rose McGowan as an innocent. No, they'll just look at her as an old, and used stripper!!!

Metalwater..Of course I don't think you really mean that...You just wanted to be the first to say Barbarbomb, am I right? Of course I'm not but if you were to ask me I would say who cares? as long as it is not Angelina Jolie or Charlize Theron, these types of well known actors and actresses ruin certain types of characters to me that I know well, especially when it comes to comic and cartoon characters, I'm all for the some what unknown actors to play these parts...

Mia Forcer, you figured me out!!!

Yes...I did want to be the first to say...Barbarbomb, or should I say Barbarbombma...but, whatever the case, I won't be the last. If they go with McGowan...every film critic will run with that line, right after this film bombs...and the final box office numbers are in. That will be the headline on every major newspaper's entertainment section...throughout the country: "Barbarbomb's at the box office!!!"

I think McGowan's a decent choice. I think she won't mind doing the sexy, she seems to have little modesty. I find her fairly attractive and a decent enough actress for genre stuff.

Let the confusion begin, but I was kind of excited when I heard Drew Barrymore wanted to do Barbarella - whether act in it or just make it. I question if Rodriguez will give it the right innuendo and eroticism it should have, but I think Barrymore would have made a fun (if fluffy) film.

If I were casting I'd like to try Sarah Carter in the role. Not that she'd probably ever do it, but Kristen Bell would be another choice.

I still think they should go with Drew. She adds that little quirkiness that this movie needs.
