Roven says ROBOTECH could start next year

But there's no script and no leading man

By Rob M. Worley     October 20, 2008

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Special Edition
© FUNimation Entertainment, Ltd. caught up with 'Dark Knight' producer Chuck Roven at the recent Spike TV Scream awards. They quizzed him on many comic-to-filmic questions, but got the most dish on the planned 'Robotech' movie.

"I'm working on...a film that has a certain kind of legacy for this audience. 'Robotech'," Roven said, confirming that he's working with Tobey Maguire and Akiva Goldsmen on the project. "I'm hopefull that  'Robotech' will start shooting some time next year."

When asked if the film would take place on Earth, Roven said that it may not. "Certainly we all know that the trigger mechanism is an attack armor."

When asked if the armor and mech designs would be faithful to the manga and anime that inspired them Roven said, "I can't tell you that honestly. Certainly we're going to take some inspiration from all that. We haven't even started production design. We're just working on the script right now."

Roven emphasized that Maguire's present role is as a producer and not as an actor.

IESB also checked in on other superhero projects like 'The Flash' and, of course, the 'Dark Knight' sequel. However Roven had no new information on those fronts.

It may not take place on earth??? WHAT???? This is one of the best stories of its kind. Please stay faithful to the cannon! Give us the SDF-1!!!

R U kidding me. The whole storyline is it taking place on earth. Without that you are pretty much changing the whole storyline.

If this is true, it is again, hollywood taking a good story and screwing it up to make it what THEY think it needs to be.

You can tweak the story, but one has to keep the main theme and story-line intact.  I've always seen this as a huge chance to have a LOTR sci-fi edition.

The next complaint will be "we just cant afford the CGI budget"!!! Sigh.

I'm sure a lot of it will be Earth based, but no 81artmonk, the whole storyline is NOT it taking place on earth.  The storyline revolves around the military and citizens living in Macross city, which gets rebuilt inisde the giant alien ship AFTER "space folding" far into space.  Their space journey back to Earth makes up almost half the Macross series!

Meh. Never watched. Don't care.

P.S. Hail to the Redskins! Right, 81artmonk?

The story is far too large for 1 or even 3 films. They should do a live action t.v. series in the vain of BSG. I would also like to add that the majority of the show from Macross to New Gen. was spent on earth.( I just watched it all the way through for the third time.)

My point was that according to the article, they seemed to play this story out NOT on earth maybe another planet.

My other point is that Hollywood can't leave anything alone. They have this idiodic idea that they have to change stuf around in order to make a good movie from comics or fantasy. Which IronMan and Hulk proved wrong.

  And Yes HAIL FFT5305!!
