Even though Scott Smith's next book isn't scheduled to be published until late in 2005, DreamWorks has picked up the film rights to THE RUINS. The studio bought the rights for Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld's production company, Red Hour Films, to develop. All we know about the book's premise is that it's set in the Yucatan jungle where something bad lives in the ruins of some sort. Smith, the screenwriter of Sam Raimi's A SIMPLE PLAN, will make a million at least from the deal and he'll also adapt his book into the film's screenplay.
