Rumor: Bradley Cooper for Indiana Jones?

Too Late? Too Old? Is it Time?

Okay Maniacs, this one comes from Latino Review, so you know the drill. The new rumor circulating is that Harrison Ford may be too old to play Indiana Jones in the next installment and will be replaced. That creates an interesting dilemma as Ford (supposedly) negotiated two more Indiana Jones films in his Star Wars deal. Even the man who is Han Solo and Indiana Jones cannot escape time and should step down. Ford will be in late seventies by the time another Indy gets rolling. Do we want another geriatric Indy?

Here is what Latino Review reported: Our ever reliable sources (same folks who told us about Rocket Raccoon) are informing us that while Harrison Ford might still play Indiana Jones in the next film of the franchise, the window of making that happen is getting smaller and smaller”.

And who just might be one of the actors that the studio is looking at ? The word is that they are looking at several but Bradley Cooper is at the top of the list”.

The other rumor is that Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Walking Dead) might be taking a crack at the script. Which, if memory serves me, Darabont had Young Indiana Jones experience as well as took a shot at franchise during the wasted years between 1989 and 2008.

The James Bond comparison is obvious. Sean Connery walked away from the franchise, twice, because age was catching up to him. Perhaps it is time to pass the torch. I am not saying Bradley Cooper is the man to do so, but he does has Hollywood’s attention right now (plus he is in bed with the mouse).

What needs to be done if the next Indiana Jones does not have Harrison Ford in it:

  1. Steven Spielberg still directs.
  2. John Williams cranks out another score.
  3. George Lucas executive produces, but has no say in the script.
  4. Go back to the time between Last Crusade and Crystal Skull.
  5. Have the Nazis play the bad guys again.
  6. No returning original cast members

Sound off below Maniacs, what do you want in another Indiana Jones?

Personally I could care less about another IJ film. I dont think they should waste time with this franchise anymore.

If Harrison is still willing to do the role then I think he should. I would much prefer him over anyone else.

Personally I would like to see his either service in WW2 or back to before Raiders, but NOT Young Indiana Jones...

Maybe have Sean Patrick Flannery take over if he were not about a foot too short (;))

Or the fact he doesn't really look enough like Harrison Ford.

Bring on more Indy movies!

I love Ford and he is Indy but it was sad seeing him run around having fist fights at the age of 70 in the last movie.

I like Cooper and would be a different take on the character that's for sure. It worked for Bond, why not?

It is kind of inevitable that it would come to this possibility. Disney owns all Lucasfilm properties. Indiana Jones is a very lucrative asset. Harrison Ford is getting too old to keep up this lucrative asset.

I consider IJ what I call a Franchise Character. One that either in books, comics, film or TV audiences have enjoyed endless adventures to the delight of the public and the happiness of the character's owners. Bond, Tarzan, Superman, Dracula, Holmes etc. are examples. They are eternally in their prime and continue to have stories as long as people are willing to pay to see them.

They should have a movie with Ford going through a minor adventure in his present which ties back to another which we go to with a flashback and intro the new guy. It would sort of be a big budget Young Indiana Jones Adventure movie.

I could see Cooper doing it. Ford is getting a little long in the tooth. I think they should just let it lie, but if they're going to keep milking the cash cow, I could think of worse people to take over. He doesn't even really need to look like Ford. None of the Bonds really looked like each other. I don't think they should modernize it, though. Keep it old school.

I don't really care either way, kind of ambivalent about ole Indy these days.  If someone made a good movie with another actor besides than Ford as Indy I would probably go see it.

I dont want to say reboot just Bond it. It the same character just played by a diffrent acto I could see Copper not only as Indy but also Han Solo, Not that the Hans Solo thing would ever happen but its something I could see happening

I clearly recall back in the mid 90's Frank Darabont was tapped to write a story treatment & script for the first Star Wars prequel. He handed in a draft which was almost immediately rejected by Lucas. Darabont was none too happy and pulled no punches in later interviews. Would he be willing to go down that road again?
