While talking to Edward Douglas about reprising his role of Sir Francis Walsingham in ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE, the sequel to the 1997 film starring Cate Blanchett, Rush brought up the possibility of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4. It seems certain that there will be a 4th film eventually given the franchise's numbers and this being a cashcow for Disney but Rush confirms that the next installment will be sitting on the shelf for a while first. As we know, the creators filmed Pirates 2 and 3 back to back for a consecutive summer release schedule. Not so with the next sequel which could take a few years off..
"I think people will let it sit for a while," he told us. "There's a strange attitude about franchise movies. People look at them as that rather than storytelling. Back in the old days, how many Thin Man movies did William Powell end up doing? Probably five or six. How many road movies did Bob and Bing end up doing over 25-year period? There could be a point… because Jack Sparrow is probably now to a certain generation more well known as a representative of the Disney imagination than Mickey Mouse himself and Johnny's performance in that role is such an extraordinary thing… that it may pop up."
ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE hits theaters everywhere October 12, 2007.

Rush's character was missed from the second film and I thought there was to much going on in the third with all those double crossing.
Anyway I hope they make a 4th film but just center it on Sparrow, now that Turner and Swan are out of the way. Throw in a little Barbosa and they are set to go.
The third ended I believe with Jack going after the fountain of youth so they have a starting point for the fourth.
