When dealing with summer tent pole movies that have CGI characters within, we sometimes experience a cast of the last-minute surprises with the actor voicing said pixelated character being confirmed very late in post-production. Here's one such example for Green Lantern. Despite a 3D release set for June 17, it's being reported by the Los Angeles Times that Geoffrey Rush is on board to voice the role of Tomar-Re, the mentor to the hero being played by lead star Ryan Reynolds.

Other stars include Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Jon Tenney, Jay O. Sanders and Taika Waititi. Helmer Martin Campbell led the direction of the cosmic film, based on a screenplay by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg.

As revealed earlier this week, fans will have a chance to check out the second full trailer for Green Lantern attached to the May 6 release of Thor.

Plot Concept: In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

I don't know why but Rush Limbaugh is the one that came to mind first lol that would've make for endless debate

The fact that this voice and Kilowog are now being cast clearly implies they didn't go mo-cap which surprises me. (Or they did and the voice didn't work like Seth Green's voice being dubbed over in Mars Needs Moms...)

As for the casting, yeah, I can hear that.  I think the rumor of Michael Clark Duncan taking Kilowog is more interesting but what can you do?

sweet, now all we need is a trailer that doesn't look like hot garbage...

i really want to be excited for this movie, I'm trying my ass off...please just give me a trailer where RR doesn't douche-it-up...*sigh....

i have a sickening feeling the Green Lantern himself is going to be the lamest part of his own movie...everything else looks pretty damn good, but RR's brand of acting is killing this character for me...

BWA HA HA HA HA!    Dialog clip:

Hal Jordan:  If Sinestro has his way, he'll not only destroy the earth, but this entire space sector!  Why does he hate us so much?

Tomar Re:  Because, if you'd been listening to me for the past two years, you'd have heard me telling you that he's a liberal progressive socialist, and he needs to be stopped!  (rolls his eyes)
