According to WENN, Ridley Scott has confirmed that he plans to make a GLADIATOR sequel with Russell Crowe.

Scott had originally tried to get a follow-up made in 2003, before abandoning the idea, but things are now back on track.

"I will probably do a sequel to Gladiator," said Scott "The only problem is Russell Crowe was such a powerful presence and, of course, Maximus dies at the end. We'll have to get Russell back somehow."

Gladiator was a great "one shot" film. It shouldn't "continue" to follow Maximus regardless of how loved the character was. Now, maybe you could make a sequel in the same world without being a sequel... I'd really really REALLY like to see that done with Blade Runner. But I guess Ridley Scott wants to try his hand at this again since "Kingdom of Heaven" struggled in theaters.

eh...after the big let down that was "Kingdom of Heaven", I'm not sure I really care what Mr. Scott does these days. "Gladiator" was pretty good and Oscar worthy movie, but trying to make a sequal with Russell Crowe sounds about retarded to me. I will always try to remember him as the director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner" and leave it at that...although "Matchstick Men" was pretty good.

I was going to say Tkay, just because KOH was a let down, you can't count Scott out. He is still one of the greats as directors go. And to me KOH failed to have that magic due to the casting of Wooden Bloom. He`s not a commanding actor like Crowe.
I do however think that this is a stupid idea. Gladiator is by far one of my favorite movies. It is totally a stand-alone and definitely doesn't need a sequel. Like someone said, just do a movie in the same realm without it actually being a sequel. Maximus is dead. Are we going to have him ghost around during the movie, following his friend, Hounsou? Gladiator was a modern day epic in the best sense of the word. A sequel would only ruin the mystique.

Indeed. This is a LAME idea, Ridley. Sounds like something your brother would do.

But if the movie comes out and your watching it in the theater, ask yourself, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

Despite the fact that Kingdom Of Heaven was a slight let down....in the end, it was still a pretty good movie. Ridley Scott's "let downs" are better than 90% of the other stuff out there. I don't know about this idea...but I'll keep an eye on it.

I agree with timd13 and dax0761. I think the movie will be a good one. I get a little tired of all the weight that is put on Hollywood's shoulders. Always yelled at for not coming up with something 'new'. It is a business, they are in it to make money, our entertainment is what makes the money, not our 'need' for originality. I loved Gladiator, and I spent money on KoH, and I will spend money on the prequel as well.
