Russell Crowe is set up to direct, produce, write and star in a World War II ensemble drama for Intermedia called THE LONG GREEN SHORE.

The film currently has a script by Bob Ellis, which will be rewritten by Crowe with his production partner Mark Johnson. Based on the book by John Hepworth, the film will tell a story of an Australian battalion in the late days of the second World War, after the European focus side of the conflict had been resolved.

The story deals on a more philosophical level as the soldiers ponder the necessity of continuing a battle that looks all but won against the nearly beaten Japanese.

Plans are to start shooting the film in spring 2002 on location in the South Pacific.
