Russell Crowe talks GLADIATOR sequel

By: Karl Schneider

According to WENN, Russell Crowe has confirmed that he and director Ridley Scott will film a sequel to GLADIATOR. While the hard quotes don't quite back up that statement, they do suggest that Crowe and Scott are seriously considering the sequel.

"We talk about it every now and then," said Crowe. "We did kind of make it tricky for ourselves, considering we killed the character at the end of the first one. But that's not necessarily going to stop us."

"There have been stranger things happen out of Hollywood... There's a sort of 'What happens in the after-life?' question."

As of now, no script seems to be in the works so we can only wait and see.

LET IT DIE!!!!

Gladiator was a great film, but why film a seque??? Plus, HOW do they plan on bringing Russel Crowe back?

I'm smelling an Alec Guiness style role. "Luke, you must defeat Caesar! Use the force...use the force."

If they don't bring back Connie Neilsen, I won't even bother with seeing this.

Maximus crosses the River Styx and starts kicking butt in Hades. They just need to get Harryhausen out of retirement to do the effects.

I don't need a sequel, but they could always say that Maximux wasn't dead when carted off I guess, or do a prequel that leads up to maximus being called to the emperor's tent; that would tie it into the first film. We already know that he had many campaigns and battles before the one that started Gladiator. Show how he became the emperor's general. And please bring back Connie Neilsen; she's not in hear enough movies for my taste.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....
more galdiator.... good
Russell Crow involved.... very good
Ridley Scott involved.... very very good
Maximus back from the dead.... very very confusing
Of course they could say he never died to begin with. The Ceasar would have had some very powerful followers, and Rome would be looking for a leader. What if his soldiers drag him out of the arena, near dead allowing all who watch to believe him gone, then quickly revive him from the poison flowing through his veins so he can live free. A really cool scene would be Maximus waking up, cured, wounded and confused to find that he was no longer at peace (that was the most content dead guy I've ever seen), he would be absolutely pissed. Then for whatever reason he gets dragged back into the political wars in Rome. They thought he was dead once and he lived to surprise everyone, why not once more.

I agree about Neilsen. With Gladiator, she was poised to be the next big leading lady and then she seemed to have gone back to doing arthouse pictures nobody ever sees.

I really wouldn't mind seeing a prequel set during Maximus's days of military campaigns. But then again, my remote control always stops on the History Channel whenever I see them doing another documentary on ancient Rome.

I'm okay with this. Well done sword-and-sandal movies are rare these days and Ridley Scott is one of the few proven directors who can do it right. I'm there.

GUYS face it, I already wrote the script. The arrow that Maximus was stabbed with was not to kill him, it was tipped with poison, and caused the hallucinations. He was not dead, it just brought him close to death. When they were cleaning his body, they noticed his eyes were in rem sleep and thus part two was born.
