Hobbs, I actually read The Shining before seeing the Kubrick film. I find the movie problematic because of the way it diverges from the but... but I can't deny that Kubrick is still scary as hell.
Hey Golden. I actually sat down and talked with the Muppets (though there were about five other journalists in the room; it's what's called a round table). The puppeteers sat and worked the characters, but we addressed the puppets themselves. It's amazing how quickly you forget the puppeteers are there, and start treating Kermit & Friends as real people. Steve Whitmore has done Kermit ever since Jim Henson died, Eric Jacobson performs Miss Piggy these days (Frank Oz is semi-retired), and Peter Linz does Walter. Three amazing performers!
Clobberin' Time: You are absolutely correct. Bob Kane, Bill Finger. Making the correction now.
I'm not sure I find Scarface overrated, I'm just shocked that anyone out there takes it seriously. It's high camp! One of the best ever made! And I think Pacino, at least, was aware of that when he made it.
Hi guys. Of course it's Howard Stark and not Tony. My bad; it's been corrected.
Surprised at how enthusiastic the fan base has been. I enjoyed the film (and I'm glad it's doing so well), but I prefered Thor and First Class for Marvel films this summer. (All three trump Green Lantern though; score this round to Marvel.) Also, the critics did not get the post-credits cookie in their screening, which sounds like forty kinds of awesome.
Regarding Rotten Tomatoes and the "skewing" of early ratings... there's no conspiracy on RT's part, since critics are in charge of posting their own reviews and RT has no control over their opinions. Studios, however, often try to stack the deck in their favor by letting enthusiastic reviews post early while holding others to an embargo until the film releases. It persists because it works; you'll often see a "fresh" rating on a film early the week it's released that grows steadily worse as the embargo ends and more and more critics weigh in. Checking the RT rating the morning the film opens is usually a good barometer of the critics' reaction; before that, you're apt to see a more positive rating than it will eventually get.

RE: The Right Stuff and Apollo 13. No, they're not technicaly genre, but they both involve spaceships and key moments in the space program. I gave them a pass on those grounds. Red Dawn is speculative, and actually posited a near-future scenario when it was released, so it qualifies. Happy 4th everyone!
Hey Jaime Murray fans: Look for a BBC series called Hustle, which starred Murray for a time. She plays a member of a team of London con artists who bilk awful people out of their money every week. There's a Season 2 episode called "Missions" which involves passing off a phony comic book as vintage. We are treated to a brief, glorious sight of Murray in a Wonder-Woman-style superhero costume. She definitely could have rocked that gig.
You can find the show on Amazon. Just type "Hustle" into the search engine. Great show, worth a look.
Joseph Gorodn-Levitt played Cobra Commander. A sweet guy and a good actor who, unfortunately, is about as menacing as a box of kittens.
And I'd completely forgotten about Elizabeth Shue in The Saint. Definitely Christmas Jones territory there!
Just for the record, Joe was not in any way responsible for the article being cut off. You see, I was drunk and there was this dead hooker and... well, I've said too much. In any case, the snafu was on my end, the article should have gone through completely, it didn't, my bad. So sorry about that. You may now resume castigating Joe solely for hating the show. Thanks!
Best,
Rob Vaux

I had some big problems with The Green Mile; I actually think it's the weakest of Darabont's King efforts. Darabont earned the pole position on the list, however, and The Mist was on there as well.
I did look at the old short The Boogeyman (Darabont didn't direct it, but it was included in an old video with Darabont's "The Woman in the Room"). It was okay, but it didn't hold up the way Gramma did.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments everyone! :)
