Ryan Gosling as JACK RYAN?

It's been a while since a Tom Clancy novel has been adapted to the big screen and from what Moviehole reports, it will be somewhat longer because this next project will be a Jack Ryan story based outside his book series. The site reports that Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) is top of the list to direct a new original story called By Any Means Necessary, which will center on Jack Ryan even if it's not set around a Clancy novel.

Cinema em Cena got a confirmation from Fernando that he was thinking of doing it but also says it's not a done deal. He has other projects that may be on top of his pecking order. If the reports come true, thespian Ryan Gosling may be the new Jack Ryan, previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

Okay... I guess.

Clancy novels have not translated well to the big screen in the post cold war era. His novels have also steadily declined in quality. Maybe a new story with a fresh perspective is necessary.

What I don't understand is why Rainbow Six isn't a movie yet.

I've thoroughly enjoyed all the Jack Ryan films so far so this is good news. I just thought Red Rabbit was supposed to be made into a film with Ben Affleck again. Whatever happened to that?

LOL Flint, you are the comic relief on this site.

I have no clue who this guy is so I can't form an opinion on it. I don't know if the cold war era stories have any place in todays world. Probably one of the reasons Clancy hasn't written a book in years. I do like what Kerrith said, Rainbow six should be a movie. Killing Terrorist...why is Hollywood afraid to make those movies yet they love to show America being the bad guy?

I think Ryan Gosling is a powerhouse of an actor and kicks ass in everything he is in. He was awesome in Half-Nelson and I really liked him in Fracture and Stay. That being said, I also thought Ben Affleck did a great job in The Sum Of All Fears. That was a very good movie, and Affleck did great as Jack Ryan. Given the right role, Affleck is a very good actor. Watch Hollywoodland or Man About Town, two very good movies. I am curious to see what happens.

Wow I havent heard a Ben Affleck joke since 2001 probably because he's become a great actor and director not to mention an awesome jack Ryan. But now that I think of it that was the same joke I heard 7 years ago. I guess all the SPIDERPIG fans are upset that Spiderpig was more of John Wayne Gacey sex toy and DAREDEVIL was portrayed by someone who got the material and didnt complain about little bruises and wind burn. Oh wait Good Will Hunting got an Oscar for writing, who wrote it?

Hollywood doesnt show America being the bad guy, it shows both sides, watch the news and see America being the bad guy. And films like Syriana and the Bourne trilogy show certain characters being bad guys, not everyone.

Yes....why isnt rainbow six a film? have asked for it for the longest time. sure its a game, but man it would be a kickass film.

Yeah, really, why hasn`r Rainbow Six become a movie or at the very least been optioned to a studio for consideration?
Besides the whole crazy "spiderpig" rant Sony is right. Ben Affleck was a great Jack Ryan. He does really well when he has good material. Hollywoodland, Sum, Changing Lanes. He`s a pretty good director too. I don`t know if I see Ryan Gosling as Jack Ryan. He could probably pull it off seeing as Ryan isn`t some kickass superspy but both Ford and Affleck and pretty physical looking guys while Gosling really isn`t. That being said he is a damn good actor. Half Nelson was great. I just watched him the other day in Remember the Titans.

I don't get it.

In my mind there is no Jack Ryan in Hollywood. All three actors have portrayed him entirely different and there is nothing that ties those movies together. Since the "Ryanverse" has never really caught on in Hollywood, why the desire to make a new story with Jack Ryan as the character? Its certainly not to "build" off of established cannon. Couldn't it just as easily be Joe Smith as the main character? Unless all they seek is a cheap tie in.

While we're throwing Clancy books out there as film ideas, yes Rainbow Six is a movie that is long overdue. Another book that I think could and should be done is Without Remorse. The John Clark character has been butchered in his two appearances on screen. I like both Willem Dafoe and Liev Schrieber, but neither meet up with the sheer level of bad-assery that is Mr. C.

I thought Clancy had a potential start of something good with Teeth of the Tiger, but he has apparently decided not to continue it. If he needs more source material, I would think there are plenty of stories he could write with John Clark's past.
