Ryan Reynolds is GREEN LANTERN

It's official!

By Rob M. Worley     July 10, 2009

After months of speculation fans now know who will play 'Green Lantern' on the big screen. Ryan Reynolds has willed himself the lead role in Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC Comics title according to a breaking story on Variety.

The news caps a big summer for the comedic actor, who was the most buzz-about player in the 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'  movie, which lead to him claiming his own spin-off as 'Deadpool'. He also topped the box office in the summer romcom 'The Proposal'.

Variety reports that the studio is still working on the budget for the move. As reported earlier today the current estimated budget is over $150 million for the super hero space opera.

Reportedly Reynolds was the choice for Warner Bros and director Martin Campbell.

Production is expected to begin in January.

What do you think Maniacs? Is Reynolds right for Hal Jordan? And now the question becomes: who should play Sinestro in the film?

WTF? Guy Gardner maybe buy Hal Jordan? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!

Who cares Reynolds is awesome.

Of the three finalists, I think Ryan Reynolds was the right choice.  His performance was the only tolerable thing about the Amityville Horror remake and he was pretty damn good in Wolverine too.  He can convincingly do action and he's funny, which will suit Hal Jordan's cocky flyboy attitude just fine.

I wonder if this will hurt the proposed Deadpool movie's chances of getting made?

Hell yeah!!!!!!.......Ryan is awsome.... he is totally a bankable star with his recent hits under his belt......now I see this doing really really well......Green Lantern is a fan favorite more than a mainstream hero......This movie could be so good.....I hope they do it right

Awesome, guess I won't be seeing this now. I wouldn't have minded Cooper but not Reynolds, with Reynolds all it will be is Deadpool/Van Wilder in the Green Lantern costume. The guy has no absolutely no range, that Amityville Horror remake was horrendous and that was one of the few times he went outside his comfort zone.

I mean honestly go watch Blade: Trinity and then watch X-Men Orgins: Wolverine, just watch Ryan Reynolds's parts and tell me if there is a difference in characters. All Green Lantern will be is Deadpool in a Green Lantern costume.

Some people might like Reynolds, but honestly go to IMDB.com and check his filmography. It's littered with terrible movies: Van Wilder, Just Friends, Waiting, The Proposal, Blade: Trinity, Amityville Horror, Definitely, Maybe, and Smokin' Aces. People could agrue Van Wilder and Smokin' Aces, but the others are terrible no matter how you debate them.

It basically comes down to the fact that Hollywood has all these people who try to do comedy, but either suck or are mediocre at it and Hollywood settles with them because they know they'll produce numbers. Acting is less of a craft nowadays and more about eye-appeal just look at Megan Fox.

I know some of this is ranting, I just have a lot of distaste for Ryan and it's my opinion. I'm just disappointed with this casting choice especially since he's slated to due Deadpool.

Fuck yea, I was worried we would get stuck with Justin Timberlake.  In Reynolds honor I shall see The Proposal tommorow.

Stunner you forgot to mention Adventureland, Ryan Reynolds was good in that and I hear The Proposal isn't bad.

This has to mean Deadpool is dead, Fox was gonna fuck it up like they always do so Reynolds dodge a bullet there I think.  Fuck FOX!!!  Now they can go rape Magneto.

Now on to Sinestro speculations.

Oh and it works out perfectly cause now Bradley Cooper can go on to work to The Hangover sequel.

The Hangover is awesomenesssssssssssssssssssss.

Well suck me sideways...I thought for sure w/ Reynolds being "Deadpool" he wouldn't get/take the gig.  I was wrong and I'm glad.  Hands down the best of the three names mentioned.  I like the pick.

jfdavis 7/10/2009 8:34:04 PM

Of the 3, he was the actor I liked best but I've never seen him in a serious role whereas I saw Cooper in Alias.  I also thought with al that going on careerwise for him he wouldn't be able to.  And The Proposal is an awesome movie (Hands down better than Transformers 2 though I admit that's comparing bananas and peaches...) and he was great in it....
