Ryder and Fiennes investigate THE DARWIN AWARDS

It had to happen eventually: there's a movie using the kitschy Darwin Awards as its premise. Winona Ryder (MR. DEEDS), Jospeh Fiennes (ENEMY AT THE GATES), David Arquette (the SCREAM trilogy), Jeffrey Tambor (HELLBOY) and Tim Blake Nelson (MINORITY REPORT) will star in the film which was written and will be directed by Finn Taylor (CHERISH). Akessabdri Nivola and Emily Mortimer will have cameos in the picture.

The Darwin Awards "celebrate" the stupidity of the human individual. They're handed out each year to those tragic citizens that injure or kill themselves through truly colossal gaps of logic, with the idea being that since the individual is now removed from the gene pool, humanity is better off (Darwinism in action.)

Ryder will play an insurance investigator who teams up with a forensic detective (Fiennes) as they investigate a potential Darwin Award winner. Filming is scheduled to commence on the romantic comedy come November 29.
