It looks like you'll need to wait a few extra months to play the next "urban" gang-fare violent video game on the market, besides Grand Theft Auto IV. Reuters is reporting that THQ has announced they're delaying the sequel Saints Row 2 from it's original August 26, 2008 shipping date to polish the game and likely prepare a bigger marketing campaign.

Here's what the developer had to say on it.

"Product quality is a huge driver of a game's success and this move allows us to polish the game. The game is done, it's about polish," said Bob Aniello, THQ's senior vice president of worldwide marketing. The move was also attributed to a better marketing campaign planned. "There is a bigger trend within the industry to build big marketing events within a bigger time window. This allows us to lead up to the holiday timeframe."

Yeah, I'll stick with GTA IV, thank you very much. Especially since there is an expected expansion download coming out in the Fall. I don't need these sub-par copycats.

Saints Row actually was a pretty good game in it's own right. Of the direct GTA copycats it is by and large the best. The world is big enough for two quality gangster games. GTA IV actually borrowed a couple of things from Saints Row like the GPS system. They're probably hoping to use this extra time to add some innovations to distance this from GTA's shadow.

I'm not vastly anxious for this mind you. With games like Prototype, Infamous, a new Prince of Persia, Mercenaries 2, the Beyond Good and Evil sequel, and above all Fallout 3 and Fable 2, there are plenty of open world games coming out that this will be a "wait until it's half price" kinda' thing.

That being said once you have gotten 100 percent completion in GTA IV give Saints Row a chance, it's a good game, and it costs all of ten dollars now.

I could careless about this game, even though the first 1 was alright. I do like the character customization though.

I think they moved the date cause they know people will still be playing GTA4 in August! I'm trying to nail Kate right now in the game and just went off killing people off the most wanted list. I love GTA

It's digital crack that's for sure, I'm just finishing the side missions before doing the last 20 percent of it. Stevie's text car requests for now. All I have left is to find this crackhead Marnie to get my "random" character achievement and then I have to do the stupid stunt jumps. I've been putting those off after the pigeon hunt. that took over a week, and I never even use the attack chopper I got as a reward... Now if I can just figure out why my cars keep disappearing from my safehouses....

Good, maybe the Karpul-Tunnel from GTA IV will subside for the youth of America... as for myself, I agree stick to GTA IV, there is a myriad of great games coming up, this is GTA IV for the Oversized shirt crowd...

you found all 200 pigeons? Damn! I wish I had more time to play to be able to do that. I wish I could play GTA all day long.

I didn't know you could put cars in the safehouses.

You've got two yellow bordered parking spaces out front labeled "tenants only" in front of each safehouse where your cars are "supposed" to be saved if you park 'em there. I've made a point of getting one of each sports car painted to my taste and then spread out at all of my safehouses so I always have a slick ride when I load up my game. I've only had a few disappear, but it's a familiar glitch from the previous games where cars would mysteriously vanish from your garage. Kinda sucks when you can't find the damned things again. Comets and Infernuses in particular are hard to come by.

As for the pigeons, yeah, I got them all, but it took forever and I have the guide which helped quite a bit. Some of the fracking things would be impossible to find otherwise. I want that 100 point achievement for 100 percent completion, so it was a necessary evil. My wife is a PHD student who is currently doing her comps and grading tests, so after work, I've got plenty of time to kill. There's squat on TV right now other than BSG once a week, so GTA has been my savior. 12 days to Metal Gear Solid 4 though...counting the days.
