According to The Hollywood News, Sam Elliot has signed on to play a role in the upcoming Rambo sequel, John Rambo.

The film, which stars Matt Marsden, Sylvester Stallone, Kim Dickens and James Brolin, will see Rambo fighting to save Christian missionaries who are taken prisoner by Burmese soldiers.

No real word on what part Elliot would play.

Filming is expected to begin February 23 in Thailand.

KJ's Take:  I like Elliot and I like Rambo, so this suits me just fine.  The real question is, who do I like more ... Elliot or Rambo.  Hmm.

I guess I'd pick Rambo, but old school Rambo, not John Rambo.

Well, Elliot seems to play the old badass mentor type to the protagonist in movies like this, so I`ll bet that will be his role.

All I can say is... Rambo, I'm there... But in the Hulk sequel, redo or whatever, Elliot better be General Ross. That dudes awesome

Ugh, seriously, KJ, you are looking forward to a Rambo movie? Are you really that nostalgic. The last two Rambo flims were just so silly. The first was an average effort at best. What next, a Top Gun sequel? Oh, I shouldn't have said that.....

Im so looking forward to this. Rambo is awesome ,First Blood and Rambo II kicked ass !. Part 3 was eh but they'll fix that with this new one. Sam Neil rocks and lets get this in the theater already !

dallas is Sam neill in this or was that just a slip up? First Blood was actually a very good movie, solid story, characters and action. II was decent 80's camp action and III sucked. Looking forward to this if it is decent, I think SE is playing the cooler.

Was your "take" supposed to make any sense, KJ? Geeze. You know what? I just like Sly. Period.

Elliot adds to any movie he's in be it a serious piece like "We were soldiers", or even a campy bit like "Roadhouse" his presence is great. His Thunderbolt Ross is so good I can't imagine anyone else doing it (even if he is a bit underweight for the part, yeah, I'm being too picky).

The DUDE in rambo....I dig it.

Can't say that I'm all that impressed with Stallione's attempt to cash in on old characters and reestablish his career on people's nastolgia. RB was okay. Not great. Certainly better than the last one, but that isn't a great compliment. I think the direction he took Rambo was so over the top silly that I find it hard that anyone really is excited about this project. I mean, all the films one could make....all the possiblities...and this is what we ask for? This is a straight to DVD project that will get wide theatre release. I'm sorry, but I'm thinking Sly might look a bit silly in this role. Hopefully, he is doing this sans long hair wig and headband.

I was just wondering what Sam had been up to lately. Glad he's got a paycheck coming. But I'm not really excited about this. I do wonder if the recent landmark films in the one-man-killing-machine genre (cf. The Transporter) will have any impact on this film.
