Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has grabbed the distribution rights in all English-speaking territories for Liberty Films' sci-fi thriller Moon,  which stars Sam Rockwell. This is the directorial debut of Duncan Jones, who also penned the screenplay Nathan Parker. Stuart Fenegan and Nicky Moss produced alongside Trudie Styler, whose company Xingu Films co-produced the project.

The story centers on a man who mines the precious gas that holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Rockwell has starred in such films as Galaxy Quest, Hitcherhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Producer Trudie Styler is possibly best known for being the wife of musician and sometimes actor Sting.

So I guess the moon is not made out of cheese after all but a thin layered disguise of some large creatures sphincter and then maybe not, but I could be right if we lived in a world that consisted of normalcy, am I right kids? Stay tuned for more breaking news on your local television stations...

It could happen...

I'm guessing that the mysterious "gas" they allude to is the isotope Helium-3, an element trapped in the Moon's regolith that can be used in a process of clean fusion.

Kaybar...Really? you mean it's not the gas of some giant creatures Sphincter which by the way is a thin layered disguise known as the moon? Or are you some kind of genius making the rest of us look stupid with your highly intelligent theory? Or did I just make myself look stupid? All valid questions that don't need to be answered...If you say that's what the deal is my man, then shoots, I can run with that...

I don't know about the story, but I can confirm that helium-3 on the Moon is currently of intense interest to many nations worldwide because it has the potential of solving the Earth's energy crises. Discovered by the Apollo astronauts in 1969, Helium-3 was deposited on the Moon by the solar wind over billions of years.

Currently the US is ramping up for a permanent colony on the moon. Russia has announced it will be mining Helium-3 by 2015-2020. China and India are also apparently gearing up for mining there and Japan and Germany are now talking about moon missions.

If that's not a setup for a story I don't know what is. It's the gold rush of the 21st century.
