Two very hot movie commodities, GEARS OF WAR & ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, that New Line is in charge of getting to the big screen. Both have finished scripts ready to go and projects ready to begin pre-production. Neither has a director chosen as of yet but there is word from Robert Sanchez over at IESB that one director's name is first and foremost on the minds of New Line executives. The same name is in the top running to helm both projects.

Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) looks to be in the lead contention for taking up one or both projects.

Both projects are slated for 2009 releases. Gerard Butler is already attached to the "Escape" remake starring as Snake Plissken.

Hey, well, his wife is hot. Underworld was a cool flick and I loved Die Hard 4.0 which to me is in the top 5 of my Summer movies. Why not give it to him.

Gears of War is doomed to fail just because of its source material.

Escape From New York still gives me a "Why?" response.

The key to making a successful game into a successful movie, is not to focus on the game elements but more on the source material for the mythology to be translated onto film, then just recreate the visuals and let it go its own way. I don't want to see a film that follows the plot of the game. Nor do I want to see a film that immitates scenes directly from the game. Slight creativity is all I ask.

I liked how Silent Hill was done. Doom did not focus on the source material so much and as they did visuals and we see the result there...

Gears of War takes place 14 years after Emergence Day. If they decide to make this film I think the movie should take place a few days before Emergence Day. That way they can show life on the planet before the Locust Horde takes over and they can show the Locust Horde wrecking havoc for the first time.
This would mean however that they would have to cast Marcus Fenix 14 years younger. I'm not sure how old he is in the game but maybe they can show him just starting out with the military. If in the movie time the films spans across a couple of years, like Zodiac, then they can show Marcus being imprisoned and labeled a traitor. That would set up for a sequel based more on the events of the game.

Nice! After Die Hard 4.0, I think Wiseman is just the man to do Carpenter's perennial hit justice.

It would be cool for him to do Escape From New York....just no cameos from anyone from the original...that would sux

I watched Die Hard 4 again today, and I have to say that some of the shots and they way they were filmed are amazing,,,there is a scene when they are in the cop car being chased and the camera is driving down a street, the car turns in front of it, then the camera goes from the back of the car around another car and switches sides to the front.....awesome shot. I noticed the movie was full of camera work like that. I think Len Wiseman has a wonderful eye for film and will do a great job.

Die Hard 4 is sweet even though the fighter jet sequence was overboard. I believe Gears of War is not the greatest story at least in game. The second game could have a good story and if they divulge into the past it would be better.
