Samuel L. Jackson has played numerous iconic characters from his long list of genre movies. He'll soon have "Sho'nuff" added to the list. The actor is set to star as the bad guy in Columbia Pictures' remake of Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon, says The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson will play Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry. Writing the screenplay as well as producing is Dallas Jackson, who heads up the urban family label DJ Classicz with Davis. Wu-Tang Clan's RZA is co-producing. John Davis and Gordy's son Kerry Gordy are producing the film, which will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year.

"I'm a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho'Nuff into the 21st century," Jackson said.

Plot Concept: The modern take of Gordy's story will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.

I never did see any kind of official word that Julius Carry died.  Just what IMDB has, nothing on here, AICN, or in Entertainment weekly.  Only a link to an online article a coworker sent.

I like Sam, I love The Last Dragon, but this movie has a classic soundtrack and is just a B movie classic all around.

What kind of f'upd music or rap crap are we going to get?  Will there even be the same type of setting seeing as how music shows that were shown in the movie aren't really around any more.

Just leave well enough alone!

First off... "Who`s the Master?"" SHOOONUFFFF!

Second of all, RAP is not crap! And I`m pretty sure there was some sort of rap in the original soundtrack seeing as it is set in Harlem during the 80`s, The Birth of HipHop, NYC. What do you want ,country music?

And I could definitely see Sam Jackson playing Sho`Nuff.

OMG I didnt know they were remaking this movie. But if anyone can fill in Sho Nuff shoes it is def  Samuel L. Jackson. I just dont know how they gonig to pull the music off. Most rap nowadays is certainly wack and continues to get even worst.  Rappers has definately lost the formula. Thats why I rather listen to old school rap rather then the rap that comes out now.

I am all about this. Sam would be awesome as Sho'Nuff. I loved the original and while I don't own it yet, now that I know it is on DVD I will own it. I say go for it and see if they can make it as fun as the first time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  DON'T YOU B@ST@RDS TOUCH IT! YOU HEAR ME! STAY THE F*CK AWAY FROM IT! STOP RAPING ALL MY MEMORIES YOU SONAMAB*TCHES! This was one of my favorite movies of the 80's. Just the thought of those butchers touching it makes me physically ill! I don't feel so good! I...I think I'm gonna throwup! <HUUUUUUU! *SPLASH*> OH GOD! <HUUUUUUUUUU! *SPLASH*>

Thing is can Sam pull off the Martial Arts? Come to think of it I dont think ive ever seen him kick anyone. He's a punch you in the face kinda guy. Hmmm. And will they use another light skinned black guy? If they do I say go with Michael Jackson. Come onna I got that glowwwa Whooo hooo hoo. Come ona. Yeah I got that glow I got the soula. Still, this is a classic it doesnt need to be touched even though I think seeing Sam would play a funny Sho'Nuff.

Hey it just a occured to me, two Jackson's what a coincidence! Nice.

Keep On With The Glow Don't, Stop Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough!!!

Hahahahahaha

"You get him to the designated time and the designated place and I will definitely designate his A$$!!"

Ha Ha! I still have no idea how that line makes any sense, but it makes me laugh every time I watch that scene! It's even better when it would play on cable and they voiced over a$$ with HINEY! I truely believe Samuel L. was born to play this role. Yeah okay so he plays the occasional iconic role from time to time, but I am definitely looing forward to this and just for the fact that he's playing SHO-NUF!!

NotAFan, you're right. Once again they dig in the mine of movies little more than 20 years old and remake it just because they know the main moviegoing audience will remember it from their childhoods (and multiple cable viewings) and trot mindlessly to see that title again, REGARDLESS of the quality of the remake. In fact, the cheaper you make it the better your profit margin will be.

I enjoyed the original even then I thought it was alittle too silly for my tastes even then, but being a martial arts fan, I've still enjoyed it many times on TV.

Yes, SLJ would be the perfect casting for Sho'Nuff. Perhaps they could get Tiamak to cameo, or little Rudy who played his sister in it. Oh-so-hot Vanity is born-again and has given up acting and singing. Yes maybe because it has Jackson in it , it will have a decent budget and perhaps be well made. Most likely I will be like the other "sheeple" and give them money for making it. But it would be sssssoooooo much better for SLJ to just be inspired by his enjoyment of the original and come up with his own story and let it become its own classic.

Are they gonna bring back Ernie Reyes Jr. for this too? This movie is totally cheesy, but fun......I am a metal-head, but I used to love old school rap, (Run-DMC, Fat Boys, Sugar Hill Gang, even 2 Live Crew), then it came to a screeching halt when Gangsta Rap took over. It lost its fun and became more about bitches and drugs. I do like some NAS and Bone, Thugs & Harmony, Cypress Hill, Mos Def......but if they are gonna remake this, they need to go old school music to kep the feel. Sam the man can play anything.

"To the beat of the rhythm of the night. Dance until the morning light. Forget about the worries on your mind. We can leave them all behind."

I remember when my sister and I went to see this movie. We didn't know the first thing about it. Just that it looked like a cool martial arts kinda movie. The theater was sold out and we were the only white (well, 1/2 asian) people in the theater. When the music video portion of the movie (featuring the aforementioned song) came on, people were literally dancing in the aisles and singing along. We had never even heard of the song. We had a blast! That movie was so frickin' cheesy, it was awesome! SLJ is the MAN and will rock as Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem! *glowing hands*  I hope he has the same haircut.
