We're all used to Adam Sandler financing and producing comedies through his Happy Madison production shingle even if I don't report most comedies here at Mania. Well, the actor is now launching a side label dubbed Scary Madison, which will focus on genre titles in the future as well. While this first film that HR is passing along is vague, it does point to a new trend that may hint more Sandler reporting here at Mania in the near future. He did dab into the genre by starring in Click.

The first film to be distributing through his new label is an upcoming thriller titled Shortcut.
The script was written by Scott Sandler and Dan Hannon, while Nicholaus Goosen, who directed Happy Madison's Grandma's Boy, will helm. Production is scheduled to start next month in Saskatchewan, with a SAG waiver already granted should there be a strike.

Plot Concept: The story
centers on two brothers who come upon a rarely used shortcut in their new town -- and soon discover the reasons why it's so rarely used. Andrew Seeley, Shannon Woodward and Dave Franco will star.

Sounds cool. Hopefully he can be successful and put out some good stuff.

BTW ... you mis-spelled SANDLER in the title. Slow down and proof read.

Keep up the good work.

I am not a Adam Sandler fan at all I think he is corny. But thats my opinion I know alot of ppl like him. But I dont know I will have to check out the trailer for this. Still doubt if I will go to the theater for it.

I'm with you wolfman. He peaked with Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer for me. Though I ain't seen his more serious films like Punch Drunk & the 9/11 flick. His comedies have gotten stale. That said I am intrigued by both the film and what a Sandler produced genre film will be like. My minds open on this.

I think its great that Sandler has the business smarts to expand his empire. Go for it.

Shortcut sounds kind of like an idea I once had. Someone with a special map or ability could find a quicker route to almost anywhere on or off Earth. Sort of like the movie Jumper.

Shortcut is a short story by Stephen King. It's not exactly the same as what they announced here, but it's too similar to not go unnoticed.
For those of you who don't know what it's about: It's about a woman who travels, by car, from her house in the big city to her house in the country. She seems to get an obsession about her traveling time from point A to point B. While in the country she has a guy who keeps her warm between the sheets and the story is told from his perspective. She shares her obsession of getting between points faster and faster by taking these crazy shorcuts. He starts noticing these odd bugs that end of splatted on the grill of her car. Suggesting that she's traveling to places that nobody is aware of. Her obsession grows from there and the story gets stranger.
So you can see the similarities that I speak of. I wonder if he'll get an Adaption credit for it. As for Sandler branching out, I'm all for it. The more the merrier. Whether their good or not, it will force the genre and the producers involved to put out a higher quality film. At least I hope.

Joey, I loved Punch Drunk Love, but I seem to be in the minority. I thought it was a great flick to squeeze his quirkiness into a dramatic (yet, still humorous) role, but I attribute the quality of that film more to P.T. Anderson; if you like quirky, artistic, romantic dramedies, then I highly recommend it. Most people didn't get it, but then most were assuming it would be a Happy Madison style comedy, which yes, are becoming rather stale.

Monkey... would that map be akin to one that a bunch of dwarfs used to step through space and time to loot the treasures of the world? ;-)

So will this Shortcut be a serious horror or comical horror? I suspect the latter.

Thanks galaga. I've actually heard good things about it and have wanted to see it. It's one of those films that's been sitting in my queue but keeps getting bumped back. Stale comedies aside I actually think he's a good actor. Kinda intrigued by the Cheadle 9/11 one as well.

Shannon Woodward is my TV crush. She's Didi on "The Riche$". Maybe they can find a reson to put her in the private school uniform in this movie.

Galaga51, yeah I know the map part is similar to Time Bandits, but I was trying to come up with some type of way to implement this ability to get places faster. Sort of like in Click the ability to shift time
came in the form of a universal remote. I thought of having the hero do the hitchhiking thumb triggering it, too. It would be like he's driving in Des Moines, IA and he wants to get to Paris France. He checks his
special map or does the thumb or something and he will instantly find a turn of the road. Then by only driving a few minutes he suddenly finds himself on a street in Paris.

Now that I've put it out there some producer will be inspired and it'll be on the movie screen in a couple of years and I'll only have a WTF expression on my face to show for it. :-o
