Hugh Laurie for Crossbones Pirate Series

House to play a pirate?

By Robert T. Trate     November 22, 2012

Hugh Laurie (House) is in talks with NBC for the lead of the new pirate series Crossbones. The series is being spearheaded byNeil Cross (Luther) and feature producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. If Hugh Laurie would sign on for the series he would play none other than Blackbeard.
The Series Details: The 10-episode Crossbones is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on earth — and a mounting threat to international commerce.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Yeah,I thought it was the worst casting a Marvel movie yet. Lol. You KNOW they wrote the headline that way on purpose.

Argh! Another PG version of the pirate life.

Would love an HBO or Starz series just for some boobs.

You guys had me really worried there for a moment, with the whole Crossbones thing.  Well played.

As for a network TV show about pirates, I'm not interested.

I think this could be a really fun miniseries - at least I assume it's a miniseries, given that it's supposed to be 10 episodes.

At least nobody can accuse NBC of not trying new ideas for TV series.  They're a lot more creative than, say, CBS.

This actually sounds pretty damn bad ass. What with how hard core shows are going these days thanks to shows like the Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. If they do this right they could have a serious winner on their hands. Hugh Laurie is an amazing actor. i wish the best for this one as I would love to watch it if it is filled full of awesome.

BTW, I hope all my fellow Maniacs had a great Turkey Day! Happy Holidays my fellow nerds, comic geeks, and movie freaks!

I love Hugh Laurie.  I'm not sure about Blackbeard...just have him play a pirate without all the baggage.  Anyway, this guy is genius, so he must really find the part appealing because he stated he was done with TV.

Reread it...ONE major concern it is network.  An HBO, or AMC limited series would be even better.  I'm sure pirates might have cursed, killed, raped, etc.  What a great idea for an HBO series.

Michael Bay already has a pirate series coming out for Starz. No doubt that one will have boobs.

Sounds interesting. I'm up for swashbuckling.
