We have yet another addition to Zack Snyder's Man of Steel production, with Variety reporting that Richard Schiff ("The West Wing") has been added to the cast. While the trade only confirms that Schiff is playing a character named "Dr. Hamilton," Superman fans across the web will remember that previous comics and the animated series utilized a character named Professor Emil Hamilton, often in connection to the top-secret research laboratory S.T.A.R. Labs. In the comics, the character began as a scientist and was eventually turned into a villain by the name of Ruin. Feel free to speculate down below whether Schiff is playing that "Hamilton" or whether the name is just a coincidence...

The actor will be joined by co-stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne. Director Zack Snyder is currently shooting the production in Vancouver and Chicago. Writers David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan penned the screenplay.

Henry Cavill plays Superman in director Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel." The film also stars Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Laurence Fishburne as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Michael Shannon, and Faora, Zod's evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman's native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, played by Ayelet Zurer, and Superman's father, Jor-El, portrayed by Russell Crowe. Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

Man of Steel flies into theaters June 14, 2013.

All the trade revealed was that his character was "Dr. Hamilton", Clownican. The initial press release did not go into whether it was Emil Hamilton...

Ah Jokerswild... so many quotes from that film by Zod. "I win. I always win. Is there no one on this planet to even challenge me?"

As for Emil Hamilton, he has been a good guy and a bad guy but which will he be in this film?

"Why do you say these things to me when you know I will kill you for it?"  My favorite Zod quote.

I'm sure Schiff is the Emil Hamilton we are familiar with. I wonder what other supporting characters might show up in the film?

It makes sense.  No way its just a coincedence.  Why use that name and mess with us.

Is this Schiff for real? No Schiff?  Who gives a Schiff.....

couldn't resist

The Hamilton character is a good thing, his character should provide another semi-bad guy to worry about, and he was dangerous to be sure!  Especially when he tries to steal DNA from supes to create are you thinking dude?  cloning super freaks is only bad news in this type of universe..........let the guessing games begin!

It would be kind of cool to have Emil Hamilton in the film.  I always liked the scenes he had in the animated series.  Here's hoping it's the actual Professor Hamilton and just not a coincidence.  That would be kind of disappointing...kinda like when Dark Knight had a guy who acted and looked just like Harvey Bullock but was named something else...
