SCHOOL OF ROCK helmer Richard Linklater has signed to direct the remake of THE BAD NEWS BEARS for Paramount Pictures. The studio has now scheduled to start filming the picture in late November for a mid-2005 release date.

Billy Bob Thornton will play the part of the little league coach, the role that Walter Matthau originally played in the 1976 film. Thornton's character will transform a team of underperforming troublemakers into a little league world series contender. The script is by BAD SANTA scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
