A new actor, a plot summary and release date have come down the wires this morning in regards to the WOLVERINE, says Variety. Up to this point, the release has been TBA 2008 leaving a lot of us wondering how they would wrap up shooting and post production so quickly. Not anymore, says the trade. The new release date is May 1, 2009.

Reportedly in talks to join the cast is thespian Liev Schreiber. The actor who starred in the Scream trilogy is set to play the role of Logan's nemesis William Stryker, originally played by Brian Cox in X2. Expect more actors to be joining shortly because the studio and producers have announced that more mutants will be appearing besides the Victor Creed character, the Creed character now being confirmed as well. Filming will be taking place in Australia by director Gavin Hood with producers Jackman, Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter.

Plot Concept: Centers on Wolverine's violent and romantic past, and his complex relationship with Victor Creed and the ominous Weapon X program, as well as his encounters with other mutants.

WOLVERINE hits theaters May 1, 2009.

I`ll be looking for Deadpool, Gambit, Omega Red, or maybe some Alpha Flight cameos in this flick. Australia? really? Is Australia going to be Australia or are they just substituting it for Canada? I don`t really see Australia as a good substitute for Canada. Or are they not going with Logan being a Canuck?

Australia can stand in for any country. We have every kind of landscape you could possibly image.

Did they confirm Sabertooth actor yet?

I like the choice for a younger Stryker. So far the only person I don't like cast for this film is Jackman. He's a fine actor but let's face it he doesn't come close to Wolverine in any way.
If Australia doesn't work it's just a short trip to New Zealand which can double for just about any part of the world.

#1,#2... Yeah Pony, you think I live in an igloo, dress like a lumberjack, and only eat whale blubber and maple syrup.....
Ok...ok... the last two are correct...
BUT I DO NOT LIVE IN AN IGLOO... after January...
There are lot's of areas of Australia that could double for Canada, but whats got my interest peaked, is how far back into Wolverines past they are going, and if Stryker is so much younger, and Wolvie will meet other mutants, wouldn't that make them geezers in the Xmen movies main continuity.... Ouch, my head aches!

If I remember right...one of the early X-men cartoons actually had Wolverine having an Australian accent (oops)...it's funny how things come full circle. At least they never went back to that...though Jackman is an Ausie??? hmmm?

Isn`t Tyler Mane playing Sabretooth again? Has anyone ever heard him speak? He can`t just growl and snarl for the whole movie. What I always enjoyed in the comics was Logan and Creed`s banter whille they fought. It will be stupid if they don`t have him speak.

So far I've got no gripes about anything I've heard on this film. I wonder if Brian Cox will show up as Stryker in any flash forwards?
Wiseguy, it's true Jackman isn't exactly the same Wolverine as he is in the comics, but the characterizations usually aren't quite the same in any literary translation. Christopher Reeve was never my interpretation of Superman but I can live with him in the movie. And to alot of people he is exactly Superman in their minds.

ponyboy,

In the first X-Men movie Logan was introduced in Alberta, Canada, so I would assume they are sticking with his Canadian heritage.

And yes jdnobody, there was a single X-Men cartoon episode produced in the late 80s where Logan was an Aussie. He only had a handful of lines but definitely had an Aussie accent. He sounded really silly, but maybe that's because his voice was so perfect in the cartoon from the 90s.

I like Liev. He's quality actor. I really wish he'd been cast as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in TDK as rumored.
