The SCI FI Channel (soon to be Syfy) and Will Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment are teaming up for a possible new series called "Unfinished Business" on the network and it revolves around a plot concept that comes close to what we've seen before on other series inside the television set. Read it below to see what we mean. The plan is to produce it as a two-hour movie and if it does well enough, turn the concept into a series. Sally Robinson is in charge of penning a script for the pilot while Mikael Salomon ("Band of Brothers") is attached to direct it. Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz will executive produce through the Overbrook shingle.

Plot Concept: The story is a new crime procedural about an ex-cop who starts seeing flashes of memories from the recently deceased. The visions compel him to help wronged souls resolve their unfinished business.

Talk about well traveled territory!  There are 3 or 4 receint shows that have used this concept, including Medium which is still on the air.  True, a new spin could reinvogorate the material and make it seem fresh but as it stands this only evokes a big yawn from me.  Can't they find something new to do?

But really, what do we really expect form a channel called Syfy?

Is there a fresh take on this?  I'm sick of the crime procedural genre in general but this twist? Maybe you can have Jenifer Love Hewitt, Patricia Arquette and Eliza Dushku as a "Charlie's Angels" team who see dead people...

Matthew Fox (from his Haunted years) can be Charlie.

Actually, it's almost exactly the plot of Haunted -- early FOX TV show starring Matthew Fox as a cop who is shot in the line of duty and dies for a minute or two, then is revived.  He's not able to go back to being a cop, but becomes a PI.  Then he finds out he can talk to the dead and... well, you get the idea.

i'dlike to sree someone do something a little cooler with tjthis concept.  Maybe these ghosts aren't such nie guys, maybe they're demons trying to tricks this guy into doing their diryty work, or some kind of underworld underworld of dead people trying to serve their own selfish desires and gain power in their own society and he got stuck in a mess thinking e was doing good justice work and now  has to figure out who's for real and who's not aong the dead to survive.
