Nobody I know will ever call or spell the name Syfy.  That's a big mistake.

Doh, "You know".

Yeah, all to well.

We know.

How about adding si-fi animated series like Galaxy Rangers, Mighty Orbots, Robotech, etc. Bring back si-fi/fantasy/adventure series like  Space:1999, Misfits of Science,Mutant X, SeaQuest, Viper, Street Hawk, and so forth

Stop showing low budget B movies.

Ok, let's cut right on thru this big old steaming pile, and get right to cases. Your ad income is in the ashcan, your ratings (in general) are falling, and the bean counters are sharpening their knives.

If you learned management from Dogbert, like a whole generation of these guys seem to have done, the best and brightest thing they can do is come up with a re-branding.

You see, kiddies, I'm old enough to remember "SciFi" when they were brand spanking new, and had the good sense to ask people like Harlan Ellison to add intelligence to their programming.

These days, the bean counters running these channels wouldn't know a real author from a flock of seagulls.

I'm with HE in so far as not liking "SciFi" as a label. It suits what the cable channel shows these days, but I have other words for that, that they won't let me post. I didn't like "cattlecar"  anymore this year than I did in the old days. The real hard truth is this. They show stuff. The ads get them money. As long as you watch the ads, they do not care a fig for what they show. They gave up on being "edgy" a year or so after they got started. If the people in charge of this media bait and switch had any real sand, they would get hold of people like Ellison and beg them on bended knee with large blank checks to make shows that are worthy of what Science Fiction is supposed to be. But another real hard truth is that nobody running any of these channels has the guts to do it.

Let this bunch of yo-yos call themselves whatever they want. I STILL won't watch them UNTIL they stop insulting my intelligence and my taste in stories.

My God, trying to read that has given me brain cancer. If this guy can't speak any better than this he's got no business running a network. I've said they were stupid for pulling this move but obviously, it doesn't stop there. This is just dumb rolling downhill.

You don't get more viewers by spelling differently, you do it with better programming.

As with all channels, one will come along with a better product for science fiction fans.

Crushing this one into a CW-style merger with Lifetime.

Roci, you miss the point.  They don't WANT more hard science fiction ala Ellison on the channel.  That sort of programming doesn't have the broad appeal they desire.  They'd rather show ALF or Vampire Women vs The Giant Cockroach or Wrestling.  They'd be perfectly happy showing a test pattern if it made people tune in to see the commercials.

Now, I have to admit that I kind of enjoy some of the broader programming.  Some of the low budget B films are kind of fun.  I liked Who Wants To Be A Superhero.  And Chase was a guilty pleasure.

If these low budget things, heck, even a limited amount of wrestling, fund stuff like BSG and Stargate then let them do it.  We don't have to watch when it's on if we don't want to.

But this new name does disturb me.  I don't want the brand broadened any more than it is.  And not because I hate change.  Because they are showing less and less programming that intrests me and more programming that doesn't.

I said it ONCE but ill post it again, since ONCE was not enough thus we got another article stating the same topic:

This hasn't been mentioned by anybody here yet but I feel changing Sci-Fi to SyFy is a real insult to the genre and fans alike.  Basically a network using our beloved genre as a cash cow was one thing, but to go as far as to make us look like were uneducated by changing the Phonetic spelling of our Genre is blasphemy, Forrest J. Ackerman coined the phrase SCI-FI for the genre and must be rolling in his grave. Shame on this network and its cheap attempt at making money.  The Networks and major studios will never learn "YOU DONT TOUCH SOMETHING THATS SACRED!"  If you want to be like every other network than call it the "SAME Channel" because thats all your going to have. The same mindless garbage most every other station churns out.  When you started Sci-Fi you really had something going!

I remember the classic shows:

Battlestar Galactica 80,V,Star trek,The worlds of Irwin Allen,War of the Worlds, Friday the Thirteenth,A-Team,Knight Rider,Thunderbirds,MST3K ,Saturday Anime, Twilight Zone, Night Gallery,Outer LimitsEtc.

Just air more old shows

The great classic films: AIP films, Cult Cinema, Sci Fi Films

Air more classic films

Great imaginative original shows:MST3K, FarScape, Lexx, Firefly,Space Precinct

Give us more imaginitive ORIGINAL shows.

I beleive that as long as the show as something extraordinary whether it be Horror, sCi Fi Fantasy or Adventure I would excepyt it on the scifi network, so the statement about "Sci-Fi" limiting your broadcast options is false.....

What we the fans want is to see the original stuff we have grown up with and to have it available to share with younger generations. We don't want pointless remakes or re-imaginings, or reality Sci-Fi (there is no such thing as Sci-Fi is an extension of  Fantasy with Science thrown in), we liked the original material just the way it was for a reason.   If you brought this format of showing old shows back, with a FEW really GOOD new ORIGINAL shows and films, that were evident that you spent some THOUGHT, MONEY and TIME producing you could gain an audience again. The "iF campaign" was a great idea in my mind. The proposed "SYFY campaign" is just another nail in your coffin.  If you cant read these posts and learn from the fans then there is no hope for your channels success.
