I think it would work better if they took a page out of Be Kind Rewind ( I wasn't a fan either) and just be every episode have the fanboys filming a different genre flick. This way you can devote each episode to sort of spoofing popular genre films

Perhaps taking a page out of the success of "The Big Bang Theory," NBC is developing a semi-scripted comedy from sitcom vet Larry Charles that will center on sci-fi fanboys. Charles and McG's Wonderland shingle will executive produce the series for Warner Bros. TV., with the production company and NBC saying the project will be shot for series consideration. Charles is on board to write, exec produce and direct the project.
Plot Concept: The untitled project centers on a group of sci-fi fanboys in a small town who shoot their own version of a canceled TV show.
Charles has been prolific in the semi-scripted space recently, having directed Sasha Baron Cohen's Borat and Bruno features; he's also the regular helmer on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Be Kind, Rewind was a good idea that was poorly executed. The film tried to deliver a message, which resulted in screwing up the concept and ruining the movie. A half-hour comedy on network tv is much more likely to get the idea done right. They don't bother with any message. They try to keep it light and fun, and not to be taken too seriously.
So disappointed with Be Kind Rewind. This show doesn't sound much better.
I couldn't believe what happened with Be Kind Rewind. It starts out one kind of film and then it ends trying to be something else and it failed at both. I'm not even sure I know what the creators were going for there, and I suspect maybe different people with different visions collided in the making of that thing. Wouldn't be the first time.
As for this show idea...let's see if NBC can execute.
SWEET!!! Cant wait! I love Curb your Enthusiasm and this concept sounds pretty damn funny.
